What's up with Weller's character?

Franklin

Vice Admiral
Admiral
With the release of the Empire article, we get yet more bits about Cumberbatch's character, the story, and the development of Kirk. We've also seen every character so far except Weller's. Does anyone even know the last time Weller was interviewed about the movie? Is he involved in the publicity at all?

He is the true mystery character.

Supposedly, he's a CEO, which may or may not be correct. He's also new to canon. It's a fairly major part. It's been said he could be Carol Marcus's father. But that still says little. Marcus's father could be a CEO, or a Starfleet officer, or a fry-cook, for that matter.

Weller also said his charcter has a starship. Given the spoilers from the Empire article
maybe when Kirk is relieved of his command, Weller becomes captain of the Enterprise. Perhaps pictures of Weller in command gold sitting in the captain's chair of the Enterprise is too much to reveal, right now.

Hey, guess big, I say.

Robert April as an Edward Jellico figure perhaps? He oversaw the Enterprise construction in both universes, but the 13 year delay has somehow left him third in line for the flagship Captaincy this time.

My theory, and I'll stick with it until I have official word (:guffaw:) is that he's Commander Starfleet. That would make him a CEO and explain why he has his own starship.

My theory is he is the Admiral possibly Fleet Admiral in charge of an illegal super soldier off the record black ops.
The super soldiers get put on ice literally and Harrison is the one that got away.

Well, we're still 5 months from the premiere.
Got to keep some stuff for the part of the marketing campaign that's closer to that.

Maybe he's just this movie's Tyler Perry. A minor, not so important role.

Weller? No way. You don't put him into a movie like this with that kind of role.

I think it's possible that "having his own starship" may be something like having his own executive jet.

I think it's a bit funny how Peter Weller is almost as much of a Renaissance man as Buckaroo Banzai...
...Weller is a sometime actor/sometime history professor (at Syracuse University)/and sometime very knowledgeable host of TV history documentaries. Does he front a rock band (like Buckaroo did)?

Wherever he goes, there he is.

Don't know, but he is (or was) a jazz trumpet player who attended North Texas State (now U of North Texas, but still one of the top music schools for jazz players.)

I'm hoping that Weller is reprising an older role of his, albeit one that's new to Trek.

And those cryonic tubes we see in the preview?
Hongkong Cavaliers awaiting revival!

He's Gary 7.

Well, come to think of it, Weller does look a bit like Robert Lansing. Makes some sense if the movie is set primarily on Earth. Do we get a Teri Garr analog as well?

(That's Gary Seven, in contrast to Anan 7, David Opatoshu's role)
