Will there be an explaination for how enterprise can go underwater?

Hi I have a quick question. I am really exited for star trek into darkness but one thing that bothers me is how ther enterprise can go underwater. I would be okay with it if they give a good explanation. So I was just wondering if anyone thinks that they will give an explanation in the new move. I dont even care if its some new type of sheild technology I just hope they explain it.

As in.. sit down with diagrams and explain it? I don't think so. The most you get will be..

Kirk: Is that safe?

Scotty: I've rigged the deflector whatsit and they'll be no problem Captain.

And that's as much as it should be.

Re: Will there be an explaination for how enterprise can go underwater

Yup. I'm sure the structural integrity field can compensate. Or some such nonsense. Really, it doesn't matter at all. It makes for a cool scene and that's all that really matters.

Re: Will there be an explaination for how enterprise can go underwater

Hey if the Enterprise can fly through water do you think it could fly through sand?

We already saw it doesn't fly through earth, just plows it up. Maybe it could fly through a planet of sand leaving a trail of glass behind.

Re: Will there be an explaination for how enterprise can go underwater

I'm sure they'll come up with some sort of dampening dampener, to dampen the effects of getting damp. ;)

Re: Will there be an explaination for how enterprise can go underwater

Someone needs to work up an animation of the Enterprise shaking water off like a big dog.

Re: Will there be an explaination for how enterprise can go underwater

What's there to explain. It has a nice durable hull, enough power to warp space, shields that can withstand multiple hits from space laz0rs and torpedoes, it can survive the forces from being close to black holes and gas giants...it can handle a couple hundred feet of water.

They never explained how a village-sized Federation ship could go underwater in Star Trek: Insurrection, and Rick Berman's Trek *loved* their technobabble. If the Insurrection holo-ship could do it, the Enterprise-E could have done it too, and if the Enterprise-E could, then Kirk's could too!

Also this, from a review of the 9-minute preview:
We also get enough humor (particularly from Simon Pegg) that manages to make light of exactly the kind of fan over-analysis that the film is sure to generate (i.e. Can the Enterprise even operate underwater?)

So the Enterprise doesn't break apart when flying at incredible speeds, can withstand the effects of nebulas, can escape from supernova's and whatever, but you're bothered by water..?? Man, you give Trek fans a really, really bad name................

Re: Will there be an explaination for how enterprise can go underwater

I think all this just stems from people who never seen their favourate wanky ship from the 24th century do it, so it's a bit uncomforting for them that an old Kirk-era Enterprise can do such 'feats'.

:)

What's there to explain?

Exactly, can't even have a nice money shot without someone complaining. From what we know of the 9 minute trailer this is the Enterprise's big entrance in the movie, so why not do it in style?

Re: Will there be an explaination for how enterprise can go underwater

I hope they don't explain it.
It's a starship!
Are people really thinking the Enterprise can't do this?

I agree totally. It's fiction, who cares, it looks cool.

Oh, and the answer is obvious. Scotty slapped a coat of this stuff on the hull.

Re: Will there be an explaination for how enterprise can go underwater

It's because my fankwanky USS Voyager with borg tech never once done this epic sort of thing, neither did my buddy's all time fav ship the Prometheus!

How can an old 23rd century POS starship go under water without blowing up?!!

This is surely violating canon, explain yourselvezz!!

Re: Will there be an explaination for how enterprise can go underwater

It matters more to me that they're there for a reason that makes sense within the situation. Frankly, it strikes me as kind of a stunt (do it because I can, like warping out of space dock), or an over-the-top solution to some problem. Either of those would be just the thing a young Kirk would do. An older and wiser Kirk may think twice about it or come up with a more conventional way of dealing with whatever problem there may have been.

Re: Will there be an explaination for how enterprise can go underwater

The planet they're on is experiencing seismic and volcanic problems, probably threatening the local sentient life, hence the duckblind.

The Enterprise may be conbining hiding with taking point blank readings much closer to the magma pockets and tectonic plates at the ocean bed.

With the new transwarp beaming technique they can even beam to and from the ship through the planetary/oceanic mass.

Re: Will there be an explaination for how enterprise can go underwater

In a world where it makes sense to build the ship ON A PLANET, what's left to explain?

Re: Will there be an explaination for how enterprise can go underwater

We never did get an explanation for the leading zero in the Kelvin's registry. And to be honest, that needs one more than underwater Enterprise.
