Details of 9 Minute Preview Revealed *SPOILERS*

THAT's the big reveal? :wtf:

Who the fuck is John Harrison?

Lt Harrison (Ron Veto) appeared in 27 episodes of the original series, including Space Seed. He was in more episodes than Lt Kyle (John Winston) who appeared in 11. Harrison is Cannon from the first and second seasons.

A background extra that even the most fanboy of Trek fans don't even know without having to Google his name is going to be the bad guy? I don't think so.

Why not? Did anybody know Nero before the first movie?

To make up a completely original character is accepted and happens all the time; to take some random extra and make him the big baddie is just, well, a bit weird.

A similar situation would be, if a human villain in Transfomers 4 turns out to be the little girl whose swimming pool got crushed by Rawhide in the first film.

I don't doubt it's a bit weird.
On the other hand, he's free of any baggage since we didn't really know much from TOS.
It will all depend on his story this time around. If it's a good story, who cares who he is?

Unless this is some kind of trick of course. :p

Nero was a completely original character. The extra Lt. Harrison is a nobody.

Never mind the fact that one or two people are making this connection solely from the character's last name, and that some rumor said BC's character was from TOS, which hasn't even been realistically proven.

Some Trekkies can make the weirdest of connections.

It happens all the time in Star Wars. Abrams is a big Star Wars fan who feels more SW should be injected into Trek. So...

He's handsome, but I don't understand why they would do such a thing.

Unless they wanted to create an original character with a name in canon. As Orci said, his character is indeed from canon but we all assumed it would be somebody big. So this way, 1) Orci told the truth, 2) they can still create a completely new character, and 3) it gives a little service to the really fanboy-ish fans.

That is flipping brilliant!

That happened to Sunshine, but I can't recall any other instance where a movie fell apart like that.

There's a horror movie called Jeepers Creepers, the first third/half of the movie is actually quite promising, including a couple *very* striking visual shots. Alas, the "big reveal" is an enormous letdown and from there it turns into utter mindlesness.

IGN and Collider is saying on twitter Alice Eve is Carol Marcus. This is coming from the Bad Robot press release today. They will probably reveal it in a few hours officially.

Ok she is not a dead ringer of Dehner! That been the biggest BS I have read on this movie. She just another blonde with a similar hair cut. We never saw a young Carol Marcus, they probably just decided to give her a 60s style hair style.

Comming soon.net has a write up of the first 9 minuets. Not too much is revealed but we do know that the movie is not going to be as dark as many fans fear and that is good news.

So its NOT Khan? That bodes well! :D

One preview said that Cumberbatch's mystery villain approached the family at the hospital offering "healing abilities" to help with their daughter. Which character, if they are, from the series had those kind of powers or access to them?

EDIT: Admittedly, it did remind me of this, but that doesn't really rule out any other kind of healing powers that could be found in the Trek universe.

Garth of Izar.
He was given similiar abilities by the species that found him and nursed him to health.
