What if the Cumberbatch villain is the Klingon Kang? Just sayin'...

I've put this theory out before, but what a wonderful way to introduce the Klingons into Nu Trek and play off the TOS concept of Klingons looking human, or possibly surgically altered, or virus altered as in Enterprise. No matter how they do it, Kang looking human (and a iconic canonical character) is not out of the realm of the rebooted mish-mash of old and new that is Abrams's Trek.

It makes a little sense, his apparent strength, agility, the fighting style, the anger, and the revenge... it's all very "Klingy". I could see Kang being a rogue, or part of a Kilingon terrorist cell or faction, angry at the Federation and it's freedoms and decadence (*coff* Al Qaeda *coff*). Perhaps he's even a sleeper agent made to look human. A devastated Starfleet and blown up Vulcan, thanks all to Nero, could leave an opening for a highly planned Klingon raid on the Federation and Kang leads the charge.
Perhaps Nero was even part of that plan, in deleted scenes Nero is captured by and in a Klingon prison, so maybe instead, the Klingons harbored the criminal Nero, protected him, then let him have his revenge on Vulcan and Starfleet to set it all into motion.

PS, I remember rumblings that Abrams wanted Liam Neeson to play Kang in the Trek sequel a few years back... PLUS, the apparent almost casting of Benicio Del Toro, that dude is very Klingon-esque...hmm?

Anyway, It's just playful speculation, nothing more... crazy thought?

I'm not sure how serious you are, but I actually have not totally discounted this theory. Let's consider that one of the original choices to play this part was Benicio Del Toro -- and Arne Darvin was a bit "swarthy".

I realize that Cumberbatch is pasty white, but after Del Toro pulled out, maybe the producers figured that Darvin did not NEED to have a tanned complexion. Having said that, Cumberbatch does not look too pasty white in that trailer.

I'm not saying I think he is Darvin, but I would not be shocked to find out that he is. If he is, I doubt it has anything at all to do with tribbles. However, a good story can be told using the premise of a Klingon spy working within the Federation (or Star fleet).

Darvin was also found out by McCoy using a simple field medical scanner. If he infiltrated Starfleet for years, or even its bureaucracy, he'd better have had a better genetic altering job than he did in TTWT.

Also, what vengeance is a Klingon seeking? Particularly one placed there perhaps years ago to finally carry out some scheme. If anything, the Klingons should be pissed at the Romulans for Nero destroying 47 of their ships.

Cumberbatch also seems like someone with a personal vendetta to carry out.

And, do we really want a villain with a name that sounds like he should be the local pro at a public golf links?

I think a lot of things are possible in an altered Trekverse... new ideas can be explored. Pike ain't the plaything of big heads, Uhura and Spock yum yum, Kirk dad dead. Kang is a sleeper agent. Vulcan gone, bing a bing bing.

Good points all... we'll see, I'm just rootin' for a Kang thang. His motivations could be multi-fold. He takes the assignment to bring down Starfleet BECAUSE he wants vengeance from Starfleet, or maybe he's a rogue and does it all on his own, whatever, all encompassing kinda stuff.

A new wrinkle... I've looked at a few screen shots in the trailer and it looks like Cumberbatch's baddie is shooting up and beating down what look to be Klingons in his big action bit. Interesting... I'm not saying it emboldens my theory cause it doesn't really, I'm just saying, Klingons do seem to be part of this movie. The "red jungle" planet might itself be the Klingon home world.

I'm thinking Cumberbatch is a Hur'q. We don't know anything about what the Hur'q look like, it would fit with "returning" and wanting revenge, and explains how you could sandwhich Klingons into the story. Remember, the earliest rumour said they'd be returning, even before the Khan rumour.

See, I've been wondering, not much has been established about the Hur'q canonically speaking. There is nothing saying the race is extinct, and therefore they could still be around in the 23rd century. And since Abrams and his cohorts are saying they'd like to provide various links to the other Trek series, this could be a perfect link to DS9. Have a scene where Kirk and Spock enter an alien night club and meet Cumberbatch. You know what would make this scene even better? Actually reveal the fucking identity of Cumberbatch's character. The potential is awe-inspiringly awesome.

The one problem is Kang had a deep, commanding, King Kamehameha-type voice. Cumberbatch sounds like a pissed-off English gent.
