Wars and campaigns that were largely ignored by FPS's

Is there a power on the Eastern Front for which a good guy narative would work?

A game about the Romanian campaign could be interesting, focusing on Romania's attempts to retake Transylvania and it's majority-Romanian population.

They ultimately lost, but still!

The only interesting games made about WWI involve air combat. A realistic ground combat game set during WWI would just be horribly depressing. A more pointless waste of human lives, the world has not seen.

I think people like WWII as a setting for video games because it has such clear heroes and villains. That kind of narrative simplicity is lacking in most wars. It's hard to find a greater real-world evil than Hitler and Nazi Germany. Likewise, WWI didn't have any real "winner," a bunch of people just died for no good reason. Thousands perished fighting for months over a mile-wide strip of land. Stuff like that isn't engaging or fun, it's just awful.

That is a very western take on the First World War. The front lines in the east were much more fluid and trench warfare was the exception rather than the rule.

I'd be cool with a game about the Eastern Front then.

It was also kind of one-sided.

If they do a WW1 shooter it would never happen. It lacks a big enough mainstream apeal. What was so funny about tha front?

Has there ever been a Korean War FPS? The only times I remember fighting in the Korean War was in flight sims.

I would love to see a medieval Battlefield type game set during something like the crusades. Instead of AK-47's and Fighter Jets you'd have Crossbows and Swords and Catapults. Teams of players would form together in a Phalanx formation to defend from enemy archers when besieging a castle. It would be awesome.

Two multiplayer games similar to that have come out recently: War of the Roses and Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. You have bows, crossbows, long swords, polearms, etc.

Wow, those look fantastic and exactly what I was looking for in a game. I don't think my computer can handle War of the Roses very well, but googling seems to suggest that Chivalry is the better game anyway. I'll definitely have to check this out. Hmm...

I would love to see Mega Man Legends 3! I'll check back in a few days.
