X-MEN: Days Of Future Past (Casting, Rumors, Pics till release)

Not surprised to hear this, but still very exciting news! This is shaping up to be my most anticipated film of 2014. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that they're doing "Days of Future Past" but if anyone could pull it off, it's Bryan Singer (even if he is co-writing with Kinberg).

I've been sure for ages that they'd just been using this title, as it fitted the retro setting - that it wouldn't be an adaptation of DOFP any more than First Class was an adaptation of the comic of the same name.

But I am quite happy to have been proven wrong - this is making for a very mouth-watering prospect (even though the storyline may now look to be overly-influenced by The Terminator or JJ Abrams' Star Trek, despite the fact that the comic predates them).

I wonder if Wolverine will be back for this - he was a fairly important part of the original story. I'm also wondering what other alumni from the original trilogy will be back - in particular, I'm thinking of a certain cast member who is supposed to cameo in the new Wolverine movie.

If memory serves me correctly, doesn't Days of Future Past take place after the events of The Dark Phoenix Saga in the X-Men chronology? I seem to remember Scott taking a leave of absence after Jean's death. The X-Men were led by Storm. Following that train of thought, neither James Marsden or Famke Janssen would be required to appear.

^IIRC, they were dead in the future and absent in the past. But there's no reason why this movie will adhere strictly to the comic storyline, particularly given that the 'past' aspect of it will be set about 15-20 years before the 'past' part of the comic storyline (the latter was in the early 1980s, I assume that the movie will be set in the early - mid 1960s).

But given that Singer took Marsden with him to his Superman movie, I am inclined to think that he might make an appearance here too.

This movie is quickly rising in terms of my anticipation for it with this new announcement.

If this is now locked in and what better source than Singer himself, it makes you wonder is those rumors of Famke, Haley etc might just be about finding time in the shooting schedule and/or payouts to make it happen.
This news also means it's highly likely Logan will also appear. I don't see how it couldn't, especially since his solo movie takes place post Last Stand and could be seen as a prequel event to DoFP now. Maybe a post credits sequence in The Wolverine as a bridging moment?

Hugh will resign...as Sammy stated it's a matter of time, and probably working it into his schedule. He'll be the only character who will be playing both present and future day versions of himself, that'll be interesting. Plus I want to see him made up as Future Logan!

Any chance they can have the stuff with the older actors take place after X2 and that way this can become the third chapter of the original trilogy? :D

They should get to the future, find that Jean, Scott, and Professor X are all dead as a result of The Last Stand and work to undo it.

Great News. It makes sense, the Xavier and Magneto conflict was one of Singer's favorite elements from the beginning.

I wonder if this movie could be jumping back and forward between different points in time. Not just time travel alone. but as a way to show unseen events and flashbacks between the two eras.

I am curious about if Beast is seen in the future sequences. In that list of confirmed cast members Nicholas Hoult's character is the only one who did not appear in the films Singer directed. Maybe he is killed by than or perhaps Kelsey Grammer would play hank again. Regardless of other opinions of The Last Stand, Grammer was perfect casting. I could see Singer using him if the story requires an older Beast.

When I heard at work that Stewart and McKellan were coming onboard, I said, "Well, look at that. Bryan Singer's getting the band back together." :)

It would be so amazing if "Days Of Future Past" went all meta, undoing the existence of "The Last Stand!" That would be the greatest cinematic achievement to date!

And Admiral Young would be ecstatic!

"Will Singer Ignore The Last Stand"? [/TrekBBS Meme]

Kind of like how STXI undid the existence of all prior Trek canon, amirite?

Oh, wait...

This should read "They should get to the future, find that Jean and Scott are dead as a result of The Last Stand, and also discover that movie audiences don't watch credits in the future."

And undo much of X-Men Origins: Wolverine too. A way to restore the character of Deadpool. ;)

This awesome news!

At this point, I'll be more surprised if Hugh Jackman doesn't return as Wolverine. I would also be very happy if Kelsey Grammer returned as The Beast, the one good thing about The Last Stand. And I'm all for undoing that piece of garbage. :D
