 Infraction for continued trolling. You should be familiar with the drill by now

Much as I appreciate the comparison, I killed 50,000 in the war myself.

Now that den-sha has been invoked, we can get back to talking about presidents and their part-time jobs...

LOL, I knew this thread was the off the rail the minute Nelly showed up.

I go to bed and see it's exploded overnight. It's now almost more about the Civil War/Lincoln the man than the fictitious movie.

The more you feed a troll, the bigger it gets. ;) And he's probably laughing his ass off that people are taking him so seriously.

At the risk if being accused of necromancy, I finally got done reading the book, and eh...I gotta say I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. The upside is, the movie didn't really wreck a great book, it was an okay book to begin with.

I expected there was a vampirism = slavery metaphor in there somewhere probably because I expected the book to be about something, and that was the most likely candidate.

But in the end, it wasn't about anything except taking a period of history and introducing vampires as a gimmick. Problem is, history as it really happened was more intesting (and scarier)!

Anther disappointment is that the author didn't do a very good job of re-creating the tone of 19th C writing. Lincoln's secret diary sounded exactly like what it was, the product of a modern novelist.

It wouldn't have been that difficult to try a little harder for an authentic style. He did make some effort, but I found it unconvincing at best. It might pass muster with a reader who was completely unfamiliar with 19th C writing, I suppose.

But this has been the point of these books, they are gimmicks and nothing more. Highly popular gimmicks.

Wow Temis, that sucks that you didn't like the book. I'm in the middle of the audio version of it now and I'm enjoying it thus far.

The problem is, they didn't say so on the book jacket. :D Gotta read the silly thing before it becomes apparent.

Meh, I was never interested in any of that. The Civil War setting interested me, that's all.

It's probably more fun when you're listening to voice actors performing the roles...
