The rules of holograms on Red Dwarf have been incredibly inconsistent throughout the series, Rimmer even didn't get his light bee until series 3! Also sometimes he is powered by Red Dwarf or Starbug and other times he can exist completely interdependently such as in Meltdown. My guess is the station had holographic projection equipment and therefore he didn't need his light bee.

Didn't Kryten have some device in his hand that was projecting Rimmer, like a remote hologram projector.

So if/when they do run into Kochanksi again, is Chloe Annette going to reprise her role?

She had that cameo in Back to Earth, so I'm assuming she's the only choice as far as Kochanski is concerned.

If they were going to replace Chloe, they wouldn't be working around her free time, if that is that they are waiting for her, the character would have appeared already... Besides, doesn't this feel more like a "getting the band back together" rather than bean counters dictating?

I love the classic feel of the current series. It's just Lister, Rimmer, the Cat, and Kryten. Wish they had Holly, but the interaction among the main 4 is perfect. I think it's better without Kochanski.

Hoping there's more after reading the great ratings news! :techman:

I'm glad it's doing well, but it's not even slightly funny...

Well you seem to be in the minority there. I'd say so far Lemons was the one the fell flattest but they've all had at least one or two laughs in.

Yeah I'd agree, I think the last one was the weakest but they've all been very watchable, and I agree with the point made up thread, I like chloe Anette a lot but the show is better with just the four of them, though it would be good if we got Holly, maybe just once.

Does anyone know if the omossion of Holly (either gender) is deliberate or just down to actor unavailability?

I don't think they're particularly keen on working with Norman again with the way he's been acting. I think Holly was omitted from BTE for budgetary reasons. And it makes sense to continue that I suppose.

Yeah, wasn't he unhappy that he was told to be available for Back to Earth, only to left out of it anyway. Probably took it more pesrsonal than intended.

Finally saw the latest episode without interruptions and I loved it much more than the previous week's. The Kryten and Cat gags were alright, but I loved Rimmer and Lister having scenes alone. They had some great lines.

The trailer for next week looks funny too. Can't believe it's just two episodes left now; I really hope we get a new series.

i just had an odd idea.

What if Dave wants more numbers like this?

More than 6 weeks a year.

What of they got Chloe and Norman to star in her own show about running away from Lister?

From what I gather they'd spent time doing rehearsals and readthroughs of the movie script as well as make up tests, then it never happened. When it came round to BTE they didn't ask him back because of budget issues and he went off the deep end slagging off not just Naylor but the cast as well and started demanding payment for the time spend on the movie that never was.

I listened to a few commentaries of the Red Dwarf series with Norman on them and he seems like a right ole stick in the mud at times. I think it makes for a more pleasant working environment without him.

Agreed on all counts. No need for Kochanski, though I wouldn't object if Holly returned.

If Holly does come back, I'd probably lean toward either Hayridge, or someone totally new with a not-dissimilar personality.

I can't believe Dave won't commission more series after such good numbers, and a generally positive fan reaction to fuel further viewership.

Oh that makes more sense. Whatever the case he comes across as totally bitter. He's doing a talk at a Forbidden Planet near me in January and it's a toss-up whether I feel like seeing him.

I loved female Holly. I think I liked her more than male Holly, which might be sacrilege. Perhaps Dave could opt for her as a way to get Holly in the new series somehow? Series X has been a big sucess so I can't see why they wouldn't do a new one. And maybe stump up more cash?

    Stranger things have happened.

Aging myself here but I saw Hattie Haydridge do stand up when I was at uni in the early 90s. I wouldn't say she was terrible but her act felt tired like she'd been trotting the same jokes out week in week out.

By contrast her support act was a strange double act called the Rubber Bishops, who were actually funnier, and who seemed to be updating their act all the time, certainly they made reference to current events which Haydridge didn't.

Funny how things go, she was the big name act back then, but one half of the Rubber Bishops was Bill Bailey :)

Well, although I like the show, I've never found it really (i.e. laugh out loud) funny, but since it came back, even less so.

    Maybe it's just me...
