I don't know about Atlanta. Their offensive line got manhandled by the Raiders' front in the second half and were it not for an excellent play by Asante Samuel, I think the Raiders would have won this game. As it was, they still came back and tied it up and gave their defense at least a chance to win it.

I think this game said more about the Raiders (positively) than it did about the Falcons.
 
Damn! What a second half! All season, the ball has not bounced Denver's way... lost all of their fumbles, rarely picking up fumbles from the other team, and dropping sure-thing interceptions like they were too hot to hold. Tonight, the defense went off! Fumbles, sacks, interceptions, pick-sixes. That right there was the difference between today's win and the three comeback losses... the defense played decently enough to keep it winnable in those games, but they didn't make huge, game-changing plays. One hell of a way to go into the bye. GO BRONCOS!
 
F-Yeah, go Broncos! Peyton played it to win it, with 300+ yards and 3 TDs, the only blemish being the pick-6. What a phenomenal game, and I'm glad the Broncos are finally playing like the caliber they are.

Just a terrible, terrible job of protecting the football.

As for my beloved Rams, this one really hurt. A perfect opportunity to get a win on the road. 12 penalties, 3 sacks, 1 unbelievably stupid fumble on special teams, and 3 missed field goals...and we lose by 3.

After that horrible showing in the Packers game, I'm suprised ESPN still shows the Texans in their power poll at 2. Oh well, we play the only other 5-1 team in the AFC this weekend. The Ravens get to visit us. It should be interesting.

I was under the impression the ESPN power rankings were based on wins and the wins of opponents you defeated. Teams that are tied in the 2nd category are then ranked on the "eyeball test".
 
Yeah, the Ravens game was just painful.

A couple of heart-breakers elsewhere. The Redskins come back, watch the Giants come back, RG3 drives again only to have the ball stripped from the Receiver.

Bucs almost tied it against the Saints, but the receiver stepped out of bounds in the endzone.

I think there were a few more, but those were the ones I got to see.
 
I must not have gotten the memo that last year's playoff OT rules now apply in the regular season as well.

Jets/Pats game yesterday - After Gostkowski hit that FG in OT, I was about to turn off the game and go make dinner, until I saw them trot off the field and the kickoff teams run on.

I can't stand the new system. It's gimmicky. Either just have it be sudden death, adopt the college system, or have it be a fixed period.
 
I personally say fixed period. There are a lot of things I dislike about the College system and I'd argue it's just as gimmicky. Sudden death has flaws. I thought the opportunity to make a comeback was a good system.
 
That's what I would do. Playing against the clock is a fundamental part of the NFL game. Any other version deprives that element. And, while I could see less time, I've seen inconclusive overtime games where they take 10 minutes to score so I don't see the point of reducing it if only by 5 minutes if it means the other team is only going to get 30 seconds or so to score. If I can get numbers that say the average time to score is 5 minutes, I could see reducing the total to 10 just to avoid dragging the game out too much, but that's about it.
 
10 minutes might give a greater sense of urgency, although you know the team that received would try to milk an 8 minute drive not leaving the other team much time to score.

5 minutes is too short - many drives last longer than that.
 
While I had an idea for overtime that I liked a little bit more, I think the current setup is better than the way it was. I like the idea of eliminating cheap field goals as a way to win.
 
It's good to be a Texans fan these days. After a bye week, we get Buffalo at home, which should be an easy win. Then on the road for a Sunday night game at Da Bears. I'm looking forward to that Bears game, it should be a good one. Two good defenses in that Bears game.
