Anyone else notice this oddity in Plagues of Night ebook?

I'll start reading Star Trek: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night on my Nook Tablet soon and, as I usually do, I did a quick scan to look for errors before I started. I noticed that the ebook goes from chapter 9 to chapter 11, then on to chapter 12. The next section, October 2382, starts with chapter 10, then moves on to chapter 13.

What gives? I'm used to Star Trek books occasionally jumping back and forth in time but I don't think I've ever ran into chapters out of order before.

Can anyone confirm whether or not this is a mistake or if there's something strange going on here that I won't know until I read through the book? I feel like I've been bounced around by the Guardian of Forever!

Thanks.

I answered this one myself. I was able to locate images of the first pages of several of the chapters in question. It looks like this is another ebook error. Chapters 9 and 10 seem to be in the correct locations. Chapters 11 & 12 were inserted earlier that they should've been. I'm not sure if this is the case with all ebook versions, just the epub or just the Barnes & Noble epub. I contacted Simon & Schuster but, if past history is any indicator, nothing will likely get done or, if it is, it may be many months away. Anyway, for those planning to read the ebook version of Plagues of Night, keep this error in mind or it could really throw you.

Don't start reading this just yet. If someone with the print edition can tell us what's correct, then I can fix this and send you a fixed copy in ePub to read.

My copy is the same way. But having read it, it doesn't seem out of order. But then, that's because of the way the book jumps around in the different scenes. I didn't notice the numbers were not in order.

Thanks Jon. You must've been typing this as I posted. I've already confirmed that it is not correct. Chapters 11 & 12 are in the wrong spot. They should follow chapter 10 in the October 2382 section. Chapter 10 is the first chapter in that section.

I've already corrected my epub.

Thanks.

I haven't read my Nook copy yet, but I have flipped threw it a few times, and I can't believe I never noticed this.

Sounds like it was likely just the epub.

I'm glad I found out and corrected before I actually started reading it!

I just checked my print copy. It goes Chapter 9, Chapter 10 (October 2382), 11, 12, 13 (March-April 2383).

The ePub has chapter 13 starting at (February–April 2383) and not (March-April 2383). Does anyone know which is correct? I would think in this case, it's the ePub if each chapter is in a given month. 13=February, 14=March, 15=April

In the Kindle or iBooks version, is it February–April 2383 or March-April 2383?

Jon,

This is the correct order for the sections in question:

August 2382
Chapter 7
Chapter 8
Chapter 9
October 2382
Chapter 10
Chapter 11
Chapter 12
Naked Frailties
February–April 2383
Chapter 13
Chapter 14
Chapter 15

The only problem was that chapters 11 and 12 were tacked on at the end of the August 2382 section rather than following chapter 10 in section October 2382 like they should've. As near as I can tell, everything else is correct, with the order anyway.

I hope this helps.

Thanks. That does help. But given the following, that would mean that the print version is in error since tomswift says the print version is March-April 2383. Can anyone confirm this is how it is in the print edition? We've already had a discussion about content in a book based upon a typo in the Brinkmanship thread.

He might've been off just a little bit. That or he has a rare, single misprint. The images on Amazon's Look Inside for the Print Version match what I posted.

I haven't even began to look at Brinkmanship yet. Can you point me to the thread where the Brinkmanship typos were being discussed? It might save me some time looking.

Thanks.

Found it in my Kindle too, though I don't think I noticed at the time..

That's odd because MatthiasRussell & John Clark both stated their Kindle versions didn't have this error. You'd think it would at least be consistent within a format...

Unless this error was fixed after these eBook versions with the error were purchased. But then Amazon is usually pretty good with informing customers or a new fixed version.

So for now, I have no idea what's up.

It's definitely in the kindle edition, I noticed when I first read it. I've just re-downloading the ebook and the error is still there.

It doesn't help that the chapters aren't indexed properly, so you can't skip back and forwards easily.
