sf/f TV development news - 2013

Re: sf/f TV development news - 2012

Well, not too surprising. It would've been tricky for Fuller to do both Mockingbird Lane and Hannibal at the same time, and the latter is already going into production.

Re: sf/f TV development news - 2012

Eh, I don't know about the odds of Hannibal's survival. There are too many serial killer shows in development and broadcast's hands will be tied, gore-wise. But there's room for at least one more visually sumptuous fantasy.

The article makes it sound like they finished the pilot.

Meanwhile Immortals writers Charley and Vlas Parlapanides have set up a high-concept drama at CBS...

CBS’ The Centurion centers on an elite Force Recon Marine who, after a near-fatal accident in combat overseas, makes a promise to God to clear the debt of the lives he’s taken if he safely returns home to his family. Settling back into his former career as a police detective, he is making good on his promise, guided by the angel of his best friend who died in the accident.

Re: sf/f TV development news - 2012

I'll bet Fuller's version would be unrecognizable in relation to the original anyway. And NBC wouldn't care about reaching the fans of the original, because they're too old. The target demo is people born in 1963 or younger, and the show went off the air in 1966.

Here's something verrrry intriguing...JMS and the Wachowskis planning a show called Sens8. No further info. Speculate away!

Given the talent involved, I choose to assume it's a sci-fi series about people who are unbelievably talky and unbearably smug, brought to you by some of the genre's hottest talents circa thirteen years ago.

But seriously, that could be interesting. Just tell me it's not some kind of cop show and may actually watch it.

Re: sf/f TV development news - 2012

In the fine tradition of punny titles, it's going to be about future enhanced humans for whom the sixth sense (mind reading) is old hat, everybody does that. Senses 7 and 8, TBD. Remote viewing and precognition?

Re: sf/f TV development news - 2012

New series from Chris Carter, The After.

Written by Carter, The After is a thriller which revolves around a mysterious, unexplained event. In the vein of The X Files, The After incorporates elements of science fiction, suspense, and real-world fear and paranoia. “Chris has woven his mythology magic within a very human, grounded story about the moment when we realize all of our worst fears about the world and its future"

Yes, it sounds exactly like The Event, but with a description that vague, it could be like anything.

Re: sf/f TV development news - 2012

Well, it is Chris Carter so no matter what it's actually about it already has potential to be good.

Alloy Sells Post-Apocalyptic Drama To CW

Alloy Entertainment has sold sci-fi pitch The Hundred to the CW. Written by Jason Rothenberg, The Hundred is set a hundred years after mankind destroyed itself. Space-bound survivors take the first step to re-colonize Earth as 100 juvenile delinquents are released to the surface of a wildly changed planet, with the survival of the human race entirely in their hands

So it's the colonization of Australia, but with teenagers. Seems an odd strategy. If it were just about getting rid of some undesirables, that would be understandable, but if the survival of the whole species is at stake, shouldn't it be entrusted to responsible adults?

Re: sf/f TV development news - 2012

Since this is the CW, the juvenile delinquents will be Jets-vs-Sharks delinquent, not Bloods-vs-Crips. They will all be very pretty and pouty, angsty and tragic. I'd rather see the damn space colony and what the grownups are dong there!
