Captain America: The Winter Soldier pre-release thread

Five actresses are up for the role of Steve Rogers' love interest--

Deadline reports that five actresses are being considered: Emelia Clarke from Games of Thrones, Alison Brie (who has worked with Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo on Community), Downton Abbey's Jessica Brown Findlay, I Am Number Four's Teresa Palmer and Fright Night's Imogen Poots. Though the role hasn't been confirmed, it's been speculated that it could be Sharon Carter, following the role that Peggy Carter played in the first film.
Also-- Possible appearance by another Avenger...

The same report states that Scarlett Johansson may reprise her role of Black Widow in the film, which would seem to be a natural fit given the character's connection to the Winter Soldier in the comic books.

I can see this as why Scarlett was originally said to be in IM3, and then she wasn't. The Widow has a much more natural part to play in this story.

I was actually wondering how crossovers would work in this little Marvel superhero movie universe that we have now. How likely are we to see other characters in movies that aren't there own? I'd love to see an Avenger or two hanging out in Asgard.

Wasn't Black Panther the first African-American super-hero?

No; he's African, but not American. King of Wakanda, remember?

However, according to the wiki,

He is the first black superhero in mainstream American comics, debuting several years before such early African-American superheroes as Marvel Comics' the Falcon and Luke Cage, and DC Comics' Tyroc, Black Lightning and Green Lantern John Stewart.

[...]

He is the first Black superhero in mainstream comic books; virtually no Black heroes were created before him, none with actual super powers. These included the characters in the single-issue, low-distribution All-Negro Comics #1 (1947); Waku, Prince of the Bantu, who starred in his own feature in the omnibus title Jungle Tales, from Marvel's 1950s predecessor, Atlas Comics; and the Dell Comics Western character Lobo, the first Black person to star in his own comic book. Previous non-caricatured Black supporting characters in comics include U.S. Army infantry private Gabriel Jones of Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos.

Nobody's arguing that Black Panther wasn't the first black superhero, just that Falcon was the first African American one.

No sweat. Seemed like clarification was still needed.

Looking back at the previous page, I now remember reading Zombie Cheerleader/Nerys Myk's coverage of that point. But that was over two weeks ago, and for some reason it seems a lot longer. This thread's been on such a slow burn, I'd forgotten it was the same thread.

I am intrigued by SJ's BW being in the film. I was unaware of the connection between Black Widow and the WS until finding this thread.

Sounds promising.

I like Jessica B-F in DA, but her character is a tad dull. I cannot decide if it is the actress or the direction.

Since all but one of those actresses mentioned are British (and Brie just did a supporting role with what was supposedly a pretty good English accent), it's clearly Sharon.

After the Avengers team up movie, I'd be very disappointed if every new "single" movie didn't have a guest star hero. They better have Banner at least cameo in Iron Man 3, given the way Avengers ended!

I don't know if I'd really want to see to much crossover in the individual movies. I wouldn't mind little set ups and cameos like we got in Phase 1, but I think I'd rather keep as much of the crossover as possible only in the Avengers movies. If we do get supporting roles for one Avenger in another's movie, I don't think I'd want to see more than that one character in that movie. IMO if we do too much crossover in the individual movies than The Avengers movies would start to lose some of their uniqueness.

I wish Anna Kendrick was still in the running. I don't know any of the other names very well and as much as I like Brie I just can't see her playing a Brit in the film.

Agreed. I definitely felt that Iron Man 2 suffered from seeming to have to do too much to set up The Avengers.

It really didn't do much at all to set up The Avengers. Fury and Black Widow had maybe ten minutes of combined screen time.

Eh, I suppose. Maybe it's me. A lot of folks seem to have taken the same thing from IM2 as you did.

Of course in the case of Black Widow being this movie, it's more a matter of doing the story right rather than just having a gratutious cameo for the sake of having a gratuitous cameo. Black Widow was an essential piece of the Winter Soldier's tale. Bucky and Natasha's shared past is an important part of his story.

I like Kendrick as well. She's one of the better 20-something talents out there now imo. Perhaps she could be Janet/Wasp in the Ant-Man film.
