So he invents a new way to communicate with Voyager who is across the galaxy and doesn't get a promotion for it? Worf got promoted in Generations and people were taking over the Enterprise all the time. :wtf:

    It was his job.

You get get kudos for just doing your job.

If he couldn't do his job he would be fired.

Considering how he spazzed out, the lad is lucky that he didn't get demoted to civilian advisor.

This is the putz that told Zephram about his statue.

By that reasoning why did Worf get promoted conisdering he was doing his job, yet badly.:guffaw:

You get promoted when you superiors feel that you can do more.

Staying in the same job on a starship is like being held back at school.

More so, Kim was doing an Ensigns job. If he wanted to be a lieutenant then he had to be transferred to a new post. It's a waste of resources to put a lieutenant in a post that can be filled in by some kid fresh out of the academy.

I wonder if Chell got promoted when he took over Neelix's kitchen?

Kim could have been promoted as well since he was the head of the ops department on Voyager which could have been a Lt. position. I guess all the smart ones are just under-appreciated. (Barclay, Data, Kim, Bashir)

Bashir started as Lieutenant, Data had been in Starfleet for 30 years when TNG started, and he stated that he was a little pissed that Picard didn't give him a command during the klingon Civil war.

Both XO's on voyager Cavil and Chakotay were lietenant commanders. It was a small ship and most of the peopel we saw in the background should have been enlisted crew really, not that the writers thought about that much.

That was the thing about Voyager you'd think promoting Kim would have been good for morale since everyone under him in ops could have earned something too. Even though they were on a small ship and far away from home Janeway could have done it. Maybe she wasn't authorized since they would have been entitled a lot of back-pay.:rommie:

As for Data I guess maybe he didn't get one since he was the 2nd officer and head of ops but when he wasn't at his post he spent too much time painting and doing poetry and dreaming. HaHa

The TNG double episode Redemption had Picard blockading the klingon Romulan boarder with thirty Starships that were half built or run down or mildly damaged, weaving a tachyon detection grid which would notice even cloaked vessels passing their the space they were holding.

    30 ships.

Picard was handing out (temporary) Captaincies to every one he could see except Pinochio, but after a stirring speech about android rights, he completely guilted the Frenchman into handing over the pinkslip to a starship.

Dude, there's no money in the Federation. No one gets paid, or backpaid.

I theorized in a thread yesterday that the crew got even portions of replicators rations no matter their rank. Janeway got the same as any of the Equinox 5, otherwise she's a Captain Bly Monster.

I am aware of that that why I used the laughing Romulan. To quote Foghorn Leghorn, "That's a joke, son!"

Those nuggets of competence are why they put up with having a screw up like him around to begin with. He's the guy that will make lieutenant commander after a 40 year career probably, but won't go beyond that.

It was Geordi who told Zephram about the statue.

Why is everyone always so concerned about who got promoted when?

All that matters is that Janeway got to the finish line before Picard. The rest.. pfft.

Only becuase she bent the universe back over itself.

picard had another 15 years to get there before...

Was Kathryn promoted to Admiral before she arived at earth?

the closer she got to Earth, the more useful an Admiral would be to the fleet out in the boondocks and periphery.

Rank, Teacake is how we keep score.

Janeway does fit the seeming requirement that Admirals be complete jerks for no reason. :p

I know I make people mad when I say this, but Janeway isn't fit to bring Picard his Earl Gray nonetheless give him orders.

Probabaly he's thinking she's some twit who got lost and landed a desk job because she couldn't handle another command. :p

Well maybe Janeway wanted to be an Admiral and took the assignment. Remember Picard turned it down on an occasion or two.
