There are exceptions, sure, but life should be an upward trajectory as you gain experience and wisdom (something many people refuse to do).

As time passes, I think you'll find that happiness comes in sufficiently varied flavours that it's quite possible to have a favourite decade that isn't the present one, and yet still feel more contented, satisfied & wiser than you did during your favourite decade.

If that seems paradoxical to you right now, just give it time.

Anyway, I choose the 1980s.

And cooleddie's line about that decade is just awesome.

For personal experiences, I'd say the 90s. I was in high school and early university: had lots of fun, explored life, and fell in love.

Generally speaking, I'd say the 60s. All the good stuff was happening then.

The 70 were kinda crazy, but not in a good way. The 80s were crap, full of vanity and commercialization. The 00s were kinda meh. Loving the 10s so far, but it's hard to judge.

For the purpose of the poll, I'm voting the 60s.

Thanks a fucking bunch for using a random thread to spoil a book some of us haven't read yet.

As I told someone else you can take my avatar as either a truth or a protest.

This was going to be my avatar regardless of what the outcome of the book was.

I have edited out any other commentary from this thread that might lead people to make assumptions.. though frankly I'm likely to say all manner of things on this matter and nothing should be taken too seriously.

I wasn't even aware that there was a new Voyager book out there dealing with Kathryn Janeway's life or death. I thought teacake was just using a spin on the old "Trip's Not Dead" avatar theme from the 2005-06 period following the airing of the final episode of Enterprise.

I did not expect the 1980s to be the most popular. i thought that the 1990s would be leading the polls.

The thing about the 80s, especially the mid/late 80s was that if you were on the gravy train, it was awesome. Money was flowing ridiculously freely, almost every asset class was soaring, people were optimistic, everything was either polished black & chrome or neon & fabulous, technology was beginning to shrink the world. Of course, if you were on the other side of the tracks, it was a very tough decade, but that's pretty much true always and forever. It also helps that I suspect board demographics are such that lots of us had formative years in the 80s, and provided those were happy times for you personally, whatever decade that happens to be will always be viewed with rose-tinted glasses. ;)

While 2000s was best for me personally, I voted for 1990s. It seems that people were more optimistic back then than they are now.

i have the same feelings as well. Financially i was more well off in the 2000s but i was happier in the 1990s.
