xbox vs music

Since i can't figure this out - does anybody have any fucking clue why it is that when I go to play music from the computer through the 360, some of the albums get mysteriously split? What I mean is, for example, I put all the Bond theme songs in one folder in My Music, made sure the properties for all songs had the same filetype, album name, etc - and for some reason the 360 sees them as spread randomly through five albums all with the same name, instead of just the one. Some other albums it'll stick, like, one fucking track in a separate album with the same name as the main one!

Why is the 360 seeing them this way, and what the goddam motherfucking hell can I do to get it to show all the fucking tracks from one album folder as actually fucking being in *one* fucking album folder?

This is something that I've spent *days* on, and still not got working.

Not much help to you i know but i gave up trying to get my music to stream to the xbox correctly.......i just stuck it all on a usb stick and left that in a spare port in the xbox.

You could also store your music onto the xbox HDD but it would have to be ripped from a CD......which means you would need to burn it to a CD first and then rip that onto the XBOX.

It's a shame we cant store any and all media on the xbox HDD like we can on the PS3 HDD......that's a nice little feature.

It's because it is sorting them based on the ID3 data within the files, not the folder structure. I don't know if you can change a 360 to use the folders instead of ID3 tags. I hope someone else can comment.

I would think you need to change the Album Artist* tag from the individual artist names to "Various" or "Various Artists" to stop this - download the free trial of Tag and rename, adjust the columns (right-click) to show album artist and see what it says.

* not to be confused with the 'artist' tag.

I'll try that, and see what changes I can make to the ID3 data with a tag editor...

Though in at least one case, there's a single-artist album where it keeps putting one track in another folder...

As for playing a playlist off a USB device- sadly the USB board got knocked out in a thunderstorm about 18 months ago, so now it won't even notice portable devices are plugged in, even though (in the case of, say rechargeable controller batteries) power is going through and will charge the devices.
