Most likely since Feige's list of characters for the press release mentioned him AND he's in the artwork.

Still be nice if it was astronaut traveling to the nearest solar system Vance Astro.

Yeah, I'd much rather see the original Guardians.

Also fits the bio of Vance Astro (Major Victory) though. That being said, Major Victory might be too close for comfort to Captain America.

Well, they could always do what DnA did in their Guardians comic run; they could have the team find a time lost Vance Astro. It was a nice way to tie both incarnations of the franchise together.

I really liked the year 3000 approach because it offered a glimpse of the legacy of Marvel icons. For instance, the alien race The Stark who based their civilization around some Iron Man armor they found; the exodus of mutants from earth to create their own society on another planet; the hunt for Captain America's shield which led into a symbol of hope among the enslaved populace of earth. There's alot to explore there which could give some context toward adventures of Marvel characters which we'll never otherwise see.

James Gunn being hired as a director would be the most inspired thing to happen in comic-book movies since Joss Whedon was tapped to direct The Avengers.

Yeah... during the Martian invasion, Tony Stark launched all his technological secrets into space to keep them away from aliens who would misuse them. What happened? The probe and its secrets were found by different aliens who named themselves after him ... and misused them.

Dude. Tony. Just hit the delete button and scrub your hard drive. Mission accomplished.

This is the sort of reason the '90s series didn't appeal to me.
