3D help

The Castellan

Commodore
Commodore
Hi yas.

As you know, I made a thread, sometime ago, about a 3D comic I got planned, and still plan to do. My aunt pretty much ruined my computer by getting it infected by a nasty virus even my anti-virus could not stop, and the computer became a big paper weight. Anyhow, I now am getting a new computer soon, and going to put all my Daz/Poser stuff back in, and I've been going over some ideas for the comic, some changes here and there. And this is going to be set 10 years after Nemesis, by the way.

I want the crew's ship to be an older ship, something for a new captain to command, and a ship that's going to be on a deep space exploration mission and here's the ships I am pondering:

Miranda*
Soyuz**
Constellation***
Ambassador****
Excelsior*****

Now here's what the asterisks are about:

*=All the Miranda models I find available for download are Reliant, Reliant, Reliant. So that's a bit frustrating.
**=Is ok, the only one I found so far is ok
***=Can't find any.....
****=Only Enterprise-C I can find.
*****=Either Enterprise-B or Excelsior are the only ones I can find.

So, if there's any others out there that can help solve my problem, I shall be thankful.
Feel free to suggest other classes if you like, I am always open to outside suggestions.:techman:

If they've been made correctly it's just an image map pasted on the model. If you look through the images that come with the model I'm pretty sure you'll find the decals and then alter them with any image editor of your choice.

If you cant work an image editor you might want to seek out some tutorials on Gimp, Photoshop or whatever before you venture into making your own comic. It's going to be a rather difficult task if you cant do basic image editing.

Also, I am pondering how to pick what uniform will go for what area.
What I mean is this:

Action4.jpg

Trying to differentiate what could be reasons between uniform 1 and 2.....could use some suggestions. Like what would the second (middle) uniform be use for, as opposed to the first on the left.

With my new computer arriving in a couple of weeks, I'll be looking foreword to putting my ideas into a tangible form.:techman:

Considering the two uniforms look like just differences in color, I don't see your problem. Choose what you like.

Looking at them and their shoes, one short dialogue comes to my mind:

Spock
- Captain, we have colegials embarked.... Is it logical?
Kirk
- Hummm...Let´s say we´ll have hard times ahead Spock. Face it as a learning exercise.
Maccoy
- I already have headteaches thinking about it. I´m to much old for this adventure Jim... Let me out in the next spacedock.
Kirk
- Bones, why you´re so acid? At least, they are beautifull. Let´s give them a chance.

Just kidding. :D The meshes are good, as the scene, but you need to work the uniforms a little more. ;) The middle one looks like it was designed for a captain, and makes me remember the one Kirk used in the first movie (ST I). The left one looks it was designed for a engineer, but I have no idea for the other...

About a Constellation Class, you can find good ones at these sites:

I choose these uniforms, since the\y remind me of TMP, and my comics are going to be 10 years after Nemesis (weather Romulas itself will be not there or still there, I am still debating) and I want to get that TNG flavor back again, and before the whole dark, military feel DS9 and onwards gave us. I figured I am going to do a sorta TMP twist on TNG, plus the uniforms have a sort of anime vibe I'm looking for (my stuff's going to be Trek with some anime flare thrown in.....like characters having giant sweat drops on their heads when something awkward happens, or one of the girls chasing a Romulan with a giant mallet )...though I am still pondering....but there are textures available, for free, that can give these uniforms a Nemesis color scheme and so on.....I'll probably decide on a coin toss or something if I can not decide.

By the way, what sorta bridge would a Constellation, or a Soyuz, given that it probably was given an upgrade to the computers and so on, have?

Xenomorphs vs daleks vs trek... now there's a crossover i'd read lol

Well, actual battles will not be a large part of my stuff. And the Dalek's the first officer of the crew in my comic.

I'm pretty sure there were decals on the side of that shuttle when I built it.
You sure that one's yours? Could have been someone else's, I don't remember where I got it from.

Pretty sure, my friend designed it and I built it. The star wars robot also came from my site originally, just not in that colour. Honestly it's not a problem or anything. That's why I put the models up on my site, so that people can use them in their own projects. It looks like these must have been converted from the original formats and the texturing information got lost in the process. They look a little rough is all.

Another question.....what sort of bridge would a Constellation have? I've seen several variants on screen, and what of that of an Ambassador?

One thing I can't find on the Daz/Poser sites, so far, is a TNG style phaser, anyone has one or know a site that has one? Thanks.

Were they poser files to begin with?

On some sites, especially on Daz3d.com's forums, there's a few links that leads to some folks who take other formats, like Lightwave, and converts them to Poser files.

All my stuff is made in Lightwave, but these days I also convert them to .obj format which a lot of other 3D packages can import as well. Unfortunately the texturing and surface information often gets screwed up during conversion between different formats. How the model ends up looking depends entirely on the guy converting it to the new format and how much work they do retexturing.
