Simply titled "Star Wars" and written by Brian Wood.

Very nice. This is the series that I've wanted to see from Dark Horse ever since they got the license. Some might say that the era between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back is pretty well mined, but it is IMHO, the "purest" era of the franchise, and well worth re-visiting.

Brian Wood writing a Star Wars comic? I haven't been excited by a Star Wars comic since Legacy concluded, so I'll be checking this out.

I've been rereading the Marvel Comics set in the post-ANH/pre-ESB era. Just great stuff fully representative of the swashbuckling fun of the first movie. Of course that's all they had when they wrote those books.

I hope this series will have a similar feel to the Marvel series. Probably not since it has six movies and an animated series to draw from not to mention hundreds of comics and novels.

I'm not familiar with Brian Wood, but I'm definitely interested. I've found the era between ANH and TESB to be surprisingly bare (not including the old Marvel Comics run).

Brian Wood is currently writing "X-Men" for Marvel (to which he returned to last year) , and is probably best known for his Veritgo series "DMZ". He's also a graphic designer.

After the Clone Wars CGI cartoon is over, I'm hoping they start a new CGI show that is set between ANH and ESB with Luke, Han and Leia as the main characters. A guy can dream right? :D

Sounds interesting. I haven't been too interested in the Dark Horse comics that have been set during the original movies (Empire, Rebellion), for some reason. I've enjoyed many of the other comics set around it though, past and future. But I'm willing to give this one a chance.

In the CBR interview, Wood says his goal is to create a series in which it's not going to be bogged down by all that.
So a Luke that barely knows how to hold a lightsaber, a Han that's still a bit more of a jerk than a hero, and a Leia that hasn't really fallen for Han yet because of her dedication to the Rebellion comes first and foremost.

    Star Wars 101...

I agree. The Marvel series is simply awesome, especially between ANH and ESB. The late, great Archie Goodwin, who also wrote the majority of the syndicated comic strip also set in that era, is my all-time favorite Star Wars comic writer.

Honestly, while I love the hell out of the Marvel series, I hope that Wood isn't beholden to it (or even to previous Dark Horse books set in the era) and is free to craft his own tale.

Hmm. While this will probably appeal to the casual fan, I'm not interested. The area's been done to death already.

Same here. Could do that series after continuing TCW into the post-ROTS/pre-ANH era, or concurrently, doesn't matter to me, just give me MORE! :D

It's good to see that creativity of titles is still at its historical nadir.

I love that initial period of time in the series and there haven't been a lot of modern day stories set in there, just a couple Timothy Zahn novels I think...

I haven't really read much set during that era yet, so I might be checking this one out.

Yeah, that's a very interesting era of Star Wars. Too bad that outside of the Marvel comics, it really hasn't been covered much.

I'd read this if I thought it was going to be good, but SW books and comics invariably disappoint me. This is a time period of SW that interests me though, (I own Vader's Quest and read Zahn's Allegiance and I'm old enough to remember the Marvel comics) and Hunter's enthusiasm and attitude is encouraging. Still...I'll probably give it a miss.
