Well, it was more serious than just losing his finger! James Doohan took 6 rounds. According to Wiki he took "four in his leg, one in the chest, and one through his right middle finger. The bullet to his chest was stopped by a silver cigarette case. His right middle finger had to be amputated, something he would conceal during his career as an actor."

He was a very, very lucky man! ( and it is amazing that something like a cigarette case may have saved his life! )

Most obvious is the scene at the beginning of STV, where Scotty is opening the bag of goodies that Uhura gives him. The lack of finger is just there.

I don't remember that...*thinks very very hard* I have to watch the movie again.

Before he got the job as Commander Riker on TNG, Jonathan Frakes worked for Marvel Comics, where he dressed up as Captain America for events.

He also appeared once as Spider-Man when the regular Spider-actor was sick. He apparently walked into the Marvel office using the 'Cap swagger' and the incongruity led to Peter David writing a Spider-Man comic in which Spidey was forced to walk around as he was stuck in suburbia with nowhere to web-swing.
