Some Old Paintings of 1701 (Big Pics!)

I was going through some old stuff and dug up these old gems. I painted these back in the late 90's in the waning years of my public education. I know they are replete with little errors. It's been years since I tried to paint an actual painting, but I imagine I might be able to do a little better, at least with the proportions of the ship itself. I still like these, though, warts and all. I'm gonna hang them up in my living room. Anyhow, take a gander...

^This one is based on another image I did (more or less like this one) but done on an index card sized piece of scratch-board. I have since lost the original scratch-board one. This one and the the next one are both oil on canvas.

That first one is great! It has all the ques of a 70's novel cover. Probably written by James Blish.

I agree with sojourner, they are very reminiscent of those Blish-era novel covers, in a good way. Each of them makes me want to know what's happening to put the Enterprise in those places at those times. They may not be perfectly technically correct, but they tell a story, and that's the important thing. Nice work.

I think the top one I actually did in class. Don't recall the grade, but I always did well in art class. We didn't have oils at school as there wasn't the budget for it, so I got myself a bunch of them and painted the other two at home. I don't recall which came first, though, as only one is dated and it's been a long while since I actually painted them...

I'll echo that. The second one has excellent composition, color, and lighting choice. A scene like that wasn't seen on TOS, but I can believe it depicts on interesting adventure of the Enterprise. It also evokes the feel of the James Blish novel covers. Showing the Milky Way (?) is also a fine choice.

It's 24" x 18" and it's my earliest surviving oil painting and I love it dearly. I'm sorry, but you'd have to make an unreasonably generous offer to get me to part with it.

But I might be willing to talk about a commission to make a new painting for ya... if you're actually interested in such things...
