Romulus, have you tried completely uninstalling STO, clearing your Internet Explorer cache, and then re-installing it? I've had corrupted files before that pass all the launcher checks, but cause the game to crash consistently when specific things are done.

Bran Flakes: "Even though this is an enemy species"

GRR! I hate those who label Tholians as an enemy species! HOW DARE THEY GENERALIZE MY ENTIRE SPECIES SOLELY ON ONE ENCOUNTER IN A PARALLEL UNIVERSE!

And I thought we were pretty tolerant. We gave the Enterprise the time they requested when they were in our territory. We have ambassadors to the Federation. We stayed out of the Dominion War. We even gave "The Sisko" our own valuable silk! Now we're branded as enemies? I disapprove!

To be fair, there is hardly any species that isn't a enemy of the federation these days.

In the grim darkness of the 25th Century, there is only war.

Well, scanning fungi on an alien world would make for a pretty boring game.

In all honesty, I wish there were more non-combat missions too. Some of the featured series have nice ones, but the regular missions do get a bit repetitive after a while if they're mostly combat.

You don't enjoy scanning 5 things in space, ending with the one near the donut-shaped asteroid? They only reused that exact map 15-20 times, max

To be fair, sometimes they added a tint to space to change the color a little...

Yeah, there's zero variety in those missions. Scan one, then scan 4 more for some reason. At least with the combat missions I don't know what's going to happen for the next 2 minutes.

I dunno, the combat missions are fairly similar too - Defeat one group of bad guys, then defeat four more groups.

There are better way to do both non-combat and combat missions.

C-points are converting to Zen on Thursday. Does this mean that Season 6 is coming out really soon? It will be interesting to see what happens with the dilithium exchange rates.. if it goes up or down. There is a lot of speculation for both sides on the official forums. Personally, I'm hoping that the rates go down, so I get more Zen for my dilithium.

Big download as I was logging off last night. Historically a good sign.

Shouldn't really make much difference, once people stop bitching long enough to break out the calculators and realize it's about the same. Gonna LOOK like things changed bigtime, as 1 CP = 1.25 Zen, so if it cost 2000 CP for a ship, it's now 2500 Zen. Same deal with the Dilithium Exchange. Once that settles, should be about the same.

the Dilithium Exchange shouldn't change much until they introduce Starbases and people have more to do with Dilithium. Then imagine the prices will go back down a bit as people buy Zen to exchange for more Dil. Right now, there's stuff to buy with CP, and people have Dil stores, so Dil is not exchanging as well.

Is season 6 material the reason for the 1+ Gb patch my laptop wants to download?

Yes. Lots of people are guessing season 6 is launching this Thursday with the huge 7 hour "maintenance downtime".

And then there's the ground equivalent: scan a rock, run to 4 more rocks, scanning each.
Your BOFFs are there, for some reason.

Though to be fair, those missions make for quick alt levelling.

On the other hand, they could've made mobs (i.e. those non-Borg encounter maps nobody really does) give decent EXP instead of this whole "QUESTS GIVE EXP AND ONLY QUESTS GIVE MEANINGFUL AMOUNTS OF EXP" stupid WoW-born fad.
In older MMOs, quests were less generic simply because they didn't have to churn out 20 times the same quest to provide enough avenues for EXP.
I miss walking up to a mob when I'm 32 TNL, quickly killing it and levelling up instead of having to do a long quest/mission for an overkill of 4500 EXPish.

Yup - done it 7 times + defragged the comp 3 times. Something about the auto-team aspect of the game just keeps messing with it.

I was actually able to access ALL my toons for the 1st two weeks of January. While playing Champions Online, one of the guys who was posting in the PVP chat suggested I shut off the "patch on demand" command found in the "Options" part in the log in window. It worked PERFECTLY and I had immediate access to ALL my characters. Then the mid-January patch/maintenance did something that prevented me from using them again, AND my non-fleeted toons as well.

It was so depressing to go from victory to a now total defeat. At least before I could make solo toons and do PVE, but now even that isn't an option. At least CO still works fine. I even was able to make a decent Klingon and Romulan on there. But it'd be nice to get back on STO, at the very least so I could copy my character bios.

Finally updated my cryptic account to a PWE one. Didn't want to do it, but it becoming harder and harder to do things without (and the Zen conversion is just the latest example).

Soon you'd have been forced to anyway; this way you have some input into your login ID.

Would be nice if the loader screen started defaulting to PWE instead of Cryptic, though, now that we've had to change. Minor annoyance, but still, should be an easy fix...
