World Countries

I've just reached a personal best of 150! There has to be somebody here that can get all 196 without cheating!

I always seem to fail with the outer-Polynesian islands and some of the central African countries.

I got 119 and ran out of time. I suck.

Yeah, I think if it was 20 minutes as opposed to 15 minutes then I think a lot of people would do better.

I'll post a screen cap when I next do it so we can all compare and see if there is any pattern emerging.

@Robert Maxwell: I can see that you and me both dodgy around Polynesia!

I only got 106. Some of the spelling got me as well. They do let some bad spelling through, pretty hit or miss. Once I had enough places in Europe and Asia it became really hard to see the map and what I was missing. And I totally spaced on Africa, aside from parts of the coast. But missed a lot of really obvious ones in there.

Seeing this, I now have Yakko Warner's "Countries of the World" running through my head.

"United States, Canada, Mexico, Panama
Haiti, Jamaica, Peru
Republic Dominican, Cuba, Caribbean,
Greenland, El Salvador too!"

That's about all I can remember right now, except for the line about "The Spanish Sahara is gone."

As promised, here is my latest attempt in which I've finally got over 150 (by 2.. still!) although there are a couple of countries that I've got in past attempts that I've neglected this time round.

Same here about the map size. The map was crazy hard to see. But what a fun quiz! I got a 119 before time ran out. Must try again! :)

I'm not even going to attempt this. I would do absolutely horrible, especially since I've never taken a geography class in my life.

Just constantly watch world news bulletins and read newspapers of the same elk, I'd say that at least 30% of my geographical knowledge came from doing that... And watching the Eurovision song contest.

"And Germany now in one piece!" :p

Heres the song for those that haven't heard it.

Damn it...66 countries. I also had trouble with spelling. I thought I'd at least get around a hundred. This is tougher than it looks. LOL.

I got 164.

I always forget about poor San Marino. :ouch:

And there were a couple of others that I can't believe I missed.

I wonder if there is a version out there where you HAVE to input each country's name as the naturalised name in the respective country's language (spelt out using English characters mind you, because few of us have a keyboard for each particular language), so for example: (these are a few of the only one's I actually know!)

Japan becomes Nippon
Turkey becomes Turkiye
Russia becomes Rossiya
Spain becomes Espana
France becomes Republique Francaise
Italy becomes Italia

This would make such a quiz exceptionally hard.

143. Ditto about being hard to see the map, I wasted time repeatedly trying to re-enter Ghana and Ukraine. Plus the spelling was pretty unforgiving. I wasted much time trying to enter "Mauretania" and "Comoro" and "Kirghizstan." But I know I couldn't have gotten them all anyhow, because all I could remember for Burkina Faso was "Upper Volta."

Just looking at some of these finished maps, I can confirm how shitty I would have done. I probably would have only gotten about 20-30 of them right.

i got 133 but wasted time where i misspelled 'philippines' repeatedly and couldn't get it to take goddamn Bosnia no matter how i spelled it.
