Orci: Four characters who won't be in XII (and more)

Her character was originally intended to be in both Galileo 7 and City of the Edge of Forever but her part was given over to other characters

Rand was also in the early version of "Dagger of the Mind", but the writers reconceived her as the guest character, Dr Helen Noel.

I don't expect to be lied to, but then, this is Hollywood, Land of Lies, and lying in bed with.

Rand was only used in The Galileo Seven adapatation, and that was meant more as a nod toward the fact that she was supposed to be in the original episode until it got re-written.

I don't remember reading that anywhere. When did Orci say this? What are those comics for then. Time to stop wasting money, I guess. And no, some fans don't hang on every word.

Orci himself never said anything about why Rand was used, that's primarily my guess, but it's a good one. Rand was originally supposed to be in The Galileo Seven episode. The fact they used her in the comic as opposed to Yeoman Mears is likely meant to be a nod to that fact.

What are the comics for? Making money, of course. Trek XI was easily the most successful Trek movie since possibly Trek VI, so of course they're going to milk it for what it's worth.

And you're right, not all fans hang on every word that Abrams and his Cohorts say. But most do. Threads like this are evidence of that.

He hasn't ruled out Ensign Gomez or Lt. Leslie. Looks like we could have Ben Finney and Trelane. It has to be about Trelane.

Some of the names being kicked around for possible roles in this film gives me goosebumps! Only in my wildest dreams have I imagined seeing the likes of them on screen again!

IDW's "ST Ongoing" comic has suggested a previous romance between McCoy and Dr Elizabeth Dehner. She'd be a fun addition.

Correct. In the comics, she avoided Gary Mitchell's fate by not getting on the Ent. because McCoy was aboard. Though technically not canon, clearly some shenigans between the two of them was the reason for his divorce.

Not necessarily. We know nothing about his divorce. For all we know, they met afterwards.

I remember reading a fascinating fan speculation in an old Best of Trek collection that McCoy's divorce was a result of an affair with Nancy Crater. So, nuMcCoy getting up to no good.... I guess it's possible. An affair would certainly justify him losing "the whole damn planet"
