Dr. Who New Series Premiere Episode Name

Well many shows suffer from villian decay.

Plus if there is a rights issue re: use of the Dalek's once per season or you lose rights. Then what are the BBC supposed to do. Not use them and perhaps never be able to use them again ever. Or feature them in some fashion once per season?

Personally I think it has something to do with the Eternal Dalek's secret ability.

Daleks are eternal. Lets just reach into the Time Vortex and pull out a few...

Honestly, if we're going to see Daleks again, I want to see Dalek Kan (Con? Khaaaaaan?). I liked how batshit crazy he was.

I don't know what the Nation estate would do with Daleks without Doctor Who, I imagine they'd negotiate.

I, personally, don't hate "Victory of the Daleks." Not the best Who episode, ever, but certainly no "Fear Her" (which is the only nuWho episode I skipped on my recent re-watch of the series. Part of me want to watch it during the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, and part of me wonders why I'm such a masochist. But, I digress).

I doubt we'll see Dalek Caan, but that does make me wonder about Davros. Given how they treated him in "The Stolen Earth" and "Journey's End," I can see the Daleks dropping him where they've been keeping all of the Dalek's that have lost to the Doctor. Sort of a "You're inferior, look what you've made us into" idea. I'm not sure that they could/would want to keep him underwraps, so I doubt he'll be in the episode.

And lastly, can I just say, I love the idea of not only do people own Daleks, but they can lend them out to the show. Wouldn't a Dalek library be wonderful? Someplace you could borrow a Dalek for a week or so.

I don't know if we'll see Caan; it's saying we'll see all the various types but not necessarily the individual characters (pretty much every Dalek except for the new Paradigm Daleks and their new minions (like the grey soldier at the start of A Good Man Goes to War) are dead, so unless they're pulling past combatants back through time I'd say it's just a bunch of loony Daleks that the heirachy locked up on some "asylum" planet and the Doctor has to stop the Paradigms from getting to them).

Or words to that effect.

Well if the rumours are true, as parts of the rights agreement with the Nation estate the Dalek's have to appear every season (and they appeared breifly last season).

You know, I have heard reliable people deny such a poilcy exists. But then, I can think of no other logical reason for why they brought Daleks in for such pointless scenes in The Waters of Mars and The Wedding of River Song than being contractually obligated to.

Though it is an interesting episode to open with, you might have thought they might have left a Dalek episode to later in the season.

Another rumour is that BBC has been pressuring Moffat (and pressured RTD before him) into using the Daleks in a premiere. It took seven years, but I guess they finally got their wish.

It worked for Power of the Daleks. Might work here too. :)

I'm still waiting for "Contractual Obligations of the Daleks"

I dunno, using them in the season opener somewhat strikes me as getting them out of the way so Moffat can get on with doing what he wants to do for the rest of the series. I could be wrong there and obviously the silence were in the season opener in S6 and played an important part throughout the series, and you could say the same about the crack in S5, so maybe the Daleks will be back later in series 7?

Much as I do think we need a rest from them, it has been a while since we've had a decent Dalek themed episode so I'm choosing to have high hopes about this.

If it is an asylum for all the Daleks mentally scarred (Skaro'd?) by their encounters with the Doctor then there's gonna be quite the riot when he shows up!

"EXTERMINATE US!!! EXTERMINATE US!!! WE DO NOT WANT TO DEAL WITH HIM!!!"

I have a vision in my head now of Daleks panicking and banging into each other in an attempt to get away...it possibly has the Benny Hill music playing over the top of it!

Of course maybe they're all in the asylum because they actually like/respect the doctor?

Or perhaps they were sensible and decided that the Doctor was one of those things you should run away from really fast. ;)

And as the main villain of the Doctor, it would be better to give them a lot more time off. That way their return can always be surprise. At this point, it's more like, "Oh, here's your obligatory Dalek episode. The Doctor is scared of them, but he's defeated them so many times that I really don't know why he's scared anymore." It's hard to make them scary when they pop up all the time.

Well, they got a year off, more or less.

As for those thinking he's just trying to get them out of the way, keep in mind that Moffat is writing the episode. If he had no interest in the Daleks, he could have passed them off to someone else for a mid-series filler episode. I think he's going to give it his all and make the episode one of the better Dalek episodes.

I think the decision was pretty straightforward. The Daleks are still popular and they want to draw in a huge amount of viewers for the season opener. Combine that with the PR about every type of Dalek appearing and the cool title, it's pretty much guaranteed to be a ratings hit.

It's not guaranteed to be high quality, but we can hope!
