Masks seems one of the more hated / disliked episodes. Why? I have always loved it. Its unconventional, a bit more "fantastic" and mythstic tone always apealed to me. Great acting by Spiner through the whole episode.

I didn't find Spiner's acting all that great in it, just the usual over-the-top acting he normally did when he got to play a character other than Data. The episode for me is just silly and doesn't make sense on numerous levels.
I just saw it again a few days ago. Very bizzare episode but i found it enjoyable and interesting. I liked Spiner's performance. He was playing characters from that planet's mythology so a little over the topness seemed appropriate.
I honestly don't remember it that well, but that's because I disliked it so much the first time it aired that I never wanted to watch it again.
I will re-watch when it's released on Blu-Ray. Maybe my opinion of it will change.

I'm not sure this is the type of episode where a cleaned up version will affect your opinion, but who knows.
Because it was a Fistful of Datas, without the holodeck, or the humor. I don't hate it, but it's hardly a top notch episode. It was just thrown together so Spiner would have some actor fodder. "Ooo! Look at my range!" I'd rather look at a compelling story
