Happy Solstice everyone!

I always get Solstice and Equinox confused. I do like that this is the longest day of the year though, even though I thought it was tomorrow.

Yaye Solstice! I hope that means we can expect some sunshine and warm weather soon... I don't mean to complain, but there has been a lot of rain lately...

Happy Solstice!

We have had nothing but sunshine and warm weather for the last few months. It's been in the 90s here all week.

Odd, I thought the logest day was in the Autumn when the clockes go back an hour and we have a 25hr day. :p (and yes I know they mean daylight hours)

The difference between the solsitce and the equniox is fairly simple. The Earth's axis has a tilt to it. The solstice's mark the point at which the axial tilt is at it's greatest point. The Equinox is the point at which the axial tilt is at zero degrees, so that neither the Northern or Southern hemisphre is inclined towards the Sun.

I'm thanked science for AC the other day and it was only about 24 degrees Celsius here! My defense is that it was very little wind. Also every time someone says it's really warm in New York, I think of the third Die Hard movie. That's just how my movie geek mind works.

Anyways, solstice! It's a really big deal here in Sweden. Tomorrow's "Midsommarafton", whick translated means basically "Midsummers eve", where we celebrate the Solstice. It is the summer holiday in Sweden, bigger by then our national holiday on June the 6th. No one really wants to work on this day so huge portions of the country just shuts down.

It is also the date for our company to which we scramble since everyone of our customers wants stuff done for it. So today we do the last push before tomorrow and try and finish a painting job and some gardening stuff. And then tomorrow, I can finally sleep in.

Happy solstice, people. Enjoy the longest day (or the longest night if you live in Down Under).

Here it has been crazy hot in the last days, the temperature reached 38 °C yesterday (around 100 °F), with high humidity, no wind, and a merciless sun. Welcome to the Pianura Padana. :(

Don't know if it's the "movie geek" in me or just my age sticking it's ugly mug out but I always think of The Seven Year Itch :rommie:

Happy Solstice to everyone as well. Kingston is very hot and humid, but gratefully, Lake Ontario is a great place to cool down in.

Yep, all down hill now. I can just feel every day getting darker.

(Yes, it's only been one day.)

We had quite a shift in the weather from yesterday to today. Yesterday was hot and about 89F. Today is overcast and 55F. We're already getting closer to winter.

^Ack! Please don't say that...I haven't been able to wear shorts and a tee shirt yet this season!

At least today is an improvement...sunny and a high of 25 degrees.
