It could, but then, why would the aliens warn us if they also intend to destroy us? Unless they're different aliens...

Other random comments:

That C-section scene was fucking intense. I wonder how many stitches Shaw ripped out while running all over the place.

Also, holy fucking Facehugger, Batman! Talk about your angry vagina monsters.

Only worth seeing on big screen to take advantage of the effects which I felt were the best feature of the movie. Overall it's pretty forgettable and not the classic his original was.

That said, part of me wonders if the Dr Elizabeth Shaw character was a Dr Who nod.

I think the decision to destroy us came a lot later, after whatever we did pissed them off.

Or maybe they don't really care about us one way or another, and just wanted to use our planet as another factory site.

Sure, we have no idea. I think Shaw said those cave paintings in Scotland were 35,000 years old. A lot can change in that time, and we're not really sure why the aliens were visiting us in the first place.

We can say "maybe" to a lot of equally likely theories. That's the problem. This movie provided absolutely no answers.

Well we learned that the Engineers started all life on Earth, that they look human under those suits, that the xenomorphs were some kind of bio-weapon (that were created from black goo), and that the Engineers were planning to return to Earth before their own weapons destroyed them.

Those are all pretty big reveals, if you ask me (even if most of it was already guessed at long ago).

Red Letter Media pretty much covered all the bases. Prometheus has some dumb characters doing dumber things.

Let me summarise the thread -

Its pretty but somewhat underwhelming.

Some of us like it more / less than others.

We want answers to the questions and explanations for the dumbness.

We will go and see the next one.

Did I miss anything ?

Well, shit, I have no further reason to come here.

Maybe at the time the paintings were made we were still in their good graces.

Must we also assume that all Engineers were of the same mindset.

The cave paintings are 35,000 years old. The incident on the Engineer's moon base happened about 2000 years ago. So something happened during that time for them to change their minds about us. What happened we don't know...yet.

Or maybe there is indeed a hint in the film and no one (to my knowledge) has deciphered it yet.

I gotta say I think it's rather cool to talk this out to understand it. I know there are some who would rather the film had spelled out everything in big bright letters and left nothing unanswered, but I actually think it's more fun this way.

Hmmm. What happened on Earth, 2000 years ago....

I agree.

Well, the most immediate thing that comes to mind...is that Christ was crucified. But it could be something else...

Well, Christ being an Engineer is either awesome or groanworthy, depending on who you are and what you thought of the movie. Warped9, did you happen to read that review I posted from LJ earlier in the thread? If so, what did you think of it?

I've read a number of links, but I'm having trouble finding yours to refresh my memory as to what was on it.

I've also read post release interviews with Charlize Theron, Ridley Scott and LJ. None of them really give much away. Maybe they'll be more forthcoming done the road.
