The 5 Doctors

Cool.

Off-topic and I'm not going to post a thread about it, as it's probably lies, but apparently the Daily Express is reporting that Tom Baker is to return for the 50th anniversary of the show.

Well, now let's not be hasty, perhaps it's not true yet that he's confirmed, but, there's every reason to believe there's a good chance it could happen.

All they need to do for Tom Baker (Or Colin Baker), is give him a respectable length grey wig with the same curly hair style (though obviously shorter, and not all big and bouncy), and a similar costume and he'll easily be recognizable. IMHO, it doesn't matter that he's aged, as long as he's recognizable.

NOTE: I DO NOT propose they make him (Or Colin Baker) up to look ridiculous or try to make them look 35 or 40 again. The other three, I think are recognizable enough if they only wear their similar costumes.

The little Comic Relief special gave us an aged Peter Davison. They could use the same trick again quite easily.

Yup, I had no problem at all with Peter Davison in Time Crash. Due to that special, along with The Five Doctors and The Two Doctors, I envision that in some kind of Alternate Universe/Reality, or something, The Doctors continue on after they Regenerate, they only end their existence in the "Prime Time Line", and for these kinds of Specials, something brings the Older than Regenerated Doctor(s) back to the "Prime Time Line" temporarily

Yeah, I think a case can be made that the various incarnations of the Doctor exist in multiple timelines, which may make it all the more dangerous whenever they meet one another.

I don't care how much they've aged or what they look like now, I want them all to come back!

Oh, it may well happen all right and I hope it does. But the report I saw said that he'd already agreed it and quoted the time-honoured 'Doctor Who sources' in support of it. This was despite Baker's comments at the above meeting, which are quoted in the transcript.

It's untrue to say that his appearance is a done deal, is what I mean.

Grey wig? How about a brown wig? ;)

I suppose this time, Eccleston will be the one stuck in the vortex, so it could be The Seven Doctors (or The Magnificent Doctors).

Well, sure, if it looked good, I wouldn't want them to make him silly though, just "Iconically Recognizable". The last thing I would want them to do to the Bakers would be to embarass them or degrade them.

^ Yeah, there was enough of that the first time around. But they should try to be accurate to the original "version".

I could see Tom Baker & Tennant both saying "wellllll..." at the same time.

While it's awesome to see all five of them together, the expressions on their faces in the overall photo aren't terribly flattering for the moment. One would think the photographer would pay attention to such details and capture the appropriate moment for the overall shot. [/photographer nitpick]

^Perhaps it's the only photo he had where Tom Baker doesn't look completely disgusted to be there.:p I thought I'd never see a photo like this. I was under the impression that Tom Baker wanted to, at all costs, avoid acknowledging the existence of other Doctors. It's nice to see him slowly coming around; sharing the convention stage with other Doctors; doing audio adventures. (Shame Elisabeth Sladen died shortly after signing a deal to do some audios with him.)

I have a hard time seeing David Tennant say no to a multi-Doctor special. He's such a fanboy at heart, he just has to do it.

BTW, while watching some interview footage on some of the old DVDs, I got an idea that just may be crazy enough to work: Have William Russell play the 1st Doctor in a multi-Doctor special. Any inaccuracies in looks or performance would be counterbalanced by the sheer nostalgia of having the 1st Doctor be played by one of his original co-stars.

The 5th Doctor postulated a theory quite similar to this in the Big Finish audio "Excelis Dawns."

P.S. I love the part in the interview where Peter Davison complains that his grandson thinks that Tom Baker was a better Doctor than he was.

Although I am generally opposed to recasting previous Doctors, something like that might be interesting to see. Although, if they can get William Russell to make an apperance, I feel it would be a missed opportunity to not have him play Ian (regardless of what was said on SJA). Having a scene between an older Ian and the Eleventh Doctor could be the sort of poignant moment that defines the anniversary special.

^True enough. I have some fun ideas in my head for Ian's return. I think it would be an interesting switch. Back then, Ian was a young man & the Doctor was old. It could be an interesting dynamic to see old Ian meet a young (looking) Doctor. Plus, I love the idea of Matt Smith meeting him:

"Chesterfield!... Chesserman!..." (Awkward pause.) "Five hundred years and I still can't get that name right..."

Maybe for an overall shot, but in the other two photos posted on that page, T. Baker looks quite happy to be there (as do the others). However, Baker wasn't the only one I was thinking: It's not the most flattering photo of McGann or Davison either (but again, the other two photos make them look better).

Eh, considering Davison & McGann are by far the best looking of the lot, anything to handicap them is probably appreciated. ;)

Funny enough, from far away and at the right angle, I think Paul McGann kinda looks like Seth Meyers from Saturday Night Live.

Yes, I fully agree with this. If they get William Russell, please have him play Ian! That would be very cool!
