(2011)-2012 NBA Season

I can't believe someone actually put that on an electronic road sign about LeBron. I acknowledge that he was a complete tool the way he went about switching teams, but shouldn't a championship loss to the Mavericks and another slipping away soften people's stance a little?

Karma's a bitch. He's a grade A douchebag (even by pro sports standards) who's earned everything people are throwing at him. When all's said and done, even if he does manage to win a championship or two, he still can't hold the jockstraps of players like Jordan or Kobe who won without having to have a squad of all-stars custom built around them.

Oh yeah, and this:

If they somehow manage to get past the Celtics, I look forward to them getting squashed by the Thunder.

Congrats OKC, this really looks like the changing of the guard with SA, LAL, and Dallas getting up there.

I don't care much who wins the east but I enjoy watching Boston play more. They are much more team oriented. Miami is just either Wade or James on an isolation while 3 guys watch.

The OKC-Boston matchups would be sweet: Westbrook-Rondo, Bass-Perkins, Pierce-Durant, Garnett-Ibaka, and sharpshooting Allen v. d-stud Sefolosha.

Could be fun.

Not just the matchups, but a Boston/OKC series would fit continue that sort of changing of the guard theme. A historic franchise with a ton of championships and traditions, with several older stars past their prime, versus a new franchise looking to make its own name, with a roster full of young talent.

Man... what is not to like about the Thunder? Outstanding series win for them!!!

Yeah, as a Spurs (and Celtics and Sacramento, but never mind) fan, I can appreciate the old-school, humble approach of that team.

How can you grumble excessively about a 24 year old superstar athlete who runs over the to the side-line to hug his mom and relatives?

<< Mini-grumble >>

GO CELTICS!

:D

Oh, and Durant's only 23. He won't turn 24 until the end of September. Westbrook will be 24 in November and Harden will turn 23 on August 26.
That should be far and away the most frightening stat for the rest of the league to consider.

No disrespect intended towards the Celtics and Heat, but before the semis began I felt the West winner would take it all. As competitive as both semis have been I haven't seen anything to change that sentiment. I just wish everyone was completely healthy. Injuries may be part of the game, but with them comes alot of "what if..." thinking.

No doubt Chicago would have contended had they not suffered the injuries to Rose and Noah. I thought they would be the ones to take it all this year. That's part of the Thunder's psychology, though. Durant and Westbrook have voiced it out loud. They've said that injuries happen and unexpected things happen to teams all the time, salary cap issues, family problems--that you can't assume you'll get there next year, you have to grab opportunity now. There's no reason to "wait your turn." You don't know if you'll get another turn. You can't assume it.

Wow. :wtf: Just......no. No, no, no and no. I'd rather see red rimmed eyeglasses, Erkel pants, paintball shirts and backpacks at post game interviews. I like those, thank you.

The funniest thing is I wasn't even searching on the word "douche" when trying to find that video. It just happened to turn up as the fifth or sixth result when searching for "Miami Heat intro video".

The young guard of players like Durant and Rose are part of the reason I'm slowly becoming interested in the NBA again. That and the fact that the Bulls are no longer the equivalent of an expansion team as they were through a large chunk of the the 2000's--who in their right mind thought it was a good idea to build a team around Kirk Hinrich...?

Well, the Thunder got what they wanted, now they better...not... screw...it...up. On paper they are head and shoulders better than Boston and no less the equal of Miami (more or less) in terms of elite talent.

But the Celtics' excellent defense scare me. They have the ability to gum up the works and turn teams into one on one artists. In the heat of the Finals, on the road, not being able to do what you do can completely boggle a team, especially a team that hasn't been there before. The Thunder will not have seen a defense in the playoffs like Boston's.

But OKC has proven to be tougher than I thought they were. Although I maintained that despite that gaudy win streak, the Spurs were quite beatable, I never thought anyone would beat them 4 straight. Props.

As for OKC's youth, the easiest thing in the world is to utter the words, "we're not satisfied (with just the conf crown)" and "we want to get it while can", but the tale will be told if they face some adversity and the body and mind start to act independently.

Didn't see the end of the game, how did OKC players respond during the presentation of the Conf Championship Trophy?

BTW, good luck to OKC holding on to Durant, Westbrook, Harden, and Ibaka after thier initial rookie deals and extensions run out, with the new CBA. Durant, barring the unforseen, is going nowhere, but the other guys...

Finally, if the Celts do come out of the east, I'm hoping the Thunder rock them like they ain't got no backbone.

Congrats to the Thunder, that Lakers series made me a fan.I'm confused about something though. The Heat promised "Not one, not two, not three... but seven championships" since LeBron brought his talents to South Beach. When are they going to start winning those seven championships? They weren't just making that up were they?

LeBron seems to have been fairly amazing tonight, with 41 pts through 3 qtrs.

The truth was a lie tonight. Looked like a bunch of old farts... Seems the Celtics can never get anything done without DRAMA.

Well, here it comes, game 7 in Miami.

W, good luck to OKC holding on to Durant, Westbrook, Harden, and Ibaka after thier initial rookie deals and extensions run out, with the new CBA. Durant, barring the unforseen, is going nowhere, but the other guys...

Durant is signed throught the 2015-2016 season. Russell signed a new contract as soon as the new CBA was in place after the lockout. Oklahoma City has the rights to Westbrook through the 2016-2017 season. It's Harden or Ibaka they may lose. That's the ubiquitious question on local talk radio. If you can't sign both, which one do you let go? They'll keep one most definitely. There's talk of amnesty-ing Perkins to try and keep both Harden and Ibaka. Ibaka has stated he wants very much to stay. It's Harden who's the question mark. He's not saying he wants to go. Not at all....but he's not putting forth that he wants to stay either. Harden's a bit of a strange bird. All the others are vocal about wanting to stay. If OKC wins a championship and I think they will, he may want to go where he can start, but Oklahoma City is greener pastures now. Does he go where he can get more money and a chance to start if he already has a ring.....that's the question.

Well, the Heat finally show some heart, some desire. When the Heat were up by 15, middle of the third quarter, I still expected them to implode but it didn't happen. The happiest guy in the building had to be Eric Spoelstra. I read quotes from LeBron this morning making some less than complimentary observations about the rotations -- a sure sign that someone was being set up to be scapegoated.

I thin they'll beat Boston in game 7. This puts a different spin on the Finals.

And Westbrook will be what 27 - 28 in the 2017 season, at the peak of his career physically. You think teams won't still want him just because it will be 5 years from now? In fact, OKC may need to trade him a year early if it looks like he is definitely leaving. As I wrote, good luck keeping all of those guys.
It's Harden or Ibaka they may lose.
Yes, that's what I wrote. :)

Everyone is vocal about wanting to stay. What they really mean is; "if it can be worked out, because if it can't, then I hate to go but sayonara".

No team will be able to offer Harden more than OKC -- the Bird Rule survived the new CBA, but where will OKC be with respect to the cap? Are the OKC owners willing to spend over the cap to keep Durant, Westbrook, and Harden? I don't think so, though I could be wrong. I think OKC keeps Durant and Westbrook for as long as they can, and if Ibaka and Harden want to walk, they'll let them go.

I've lost interest in the NBA over the years but these playoffs I admit have been so much better than the NHL playoffs. I hope the Celtics win Game 7, even though I don't think anyone can stop the thunder. Now that is a very complete team and I really want to see Durant and Westbrook win this Championship this year. I'm actually looking forward a little bit to tomorrow night's Game 7.

Whoops. :o

Hey, maybe the Celtics saw it, got pissed off, and that's why they played a solid first half. Hell, I want Boston to win. I think they're an excellent, disciplined team but let's be honest, their average age is much older than my Thunder and I have a hard time thinking they could keep up with the Thunder's younger, sturdier legs for seven games. I think my Thunder could beat Miami as well because of the psychological edge, ie. not being a bunch of egomaniacal headcases, but why not have an older team as a competitor than a younger one?

Hopefully, I don't rue those words.
