Pegg and Yeltin in militar uniforms

The style seems almost indistinguishable from the uniforms we saw in the previous movie IMHO. The epaulets are new, and the peak-brimmed cap is different from the one worn with the grey-brown uniforms of SF Academy - but then again, the Academy scenes featured a wide range of headgear, such as the four designs seen here:

Doesn't look out of the line to me, then. Didn't Pike have a hat very much like that on his table in "The Cage", with a wide top that had a number of peaks (a hexagon, perhaps)?

Thanks for that, Timo...

...but a quick look at your linked image reveals that Number 6 is trying to escape from The Village again:

I AM NOT A NUMBER!!!

That Pegg/Yeltsin pic appeared on a friend's Facebook page this week, but I didn't recognize their faces as I scrolled through "News". The caption read, "Hey guys, the Grand Moff Tarkin wants his uniforms back."

Where's her picture with Karl Urban?

Miri? ;)

As far as the uniforms go, nothing says "outer space" to me like olive drab. If they had couple of Spad XIII's parked behind them, it really would've completed the effect.

I guess Pegg hadn't put the black rinse in his hair, yet.

Grand Pegg Tarkin is aghast!

Pike's hat can be seen here in his quarters, on top of his console television set.

How many times have I watched The Cage or the Menagerie and I never once noticed the hat!!

Those uniforms still look Nazi to me, or maybe banana-republic-ish. I'm thinking Franco, Peron...they aren't really going to use them in the movie are they? :wtf:

Maybe they will look better in the movie? I remember I didn't care for the look of the cadet uniforms from pictures leaked out prior to the movie. But when I saw them on screen I thought they were fine.

So what? I'm not seeing a problem. Uniforms give a sense of... uniformity.

They do look very much like the style of the Academy uniforms, but remember that Benedict Cumberbatch will be in a Starfleet uniform at some point, so maybe Scotty and Chekov are undercover, too, someplace else?

Also, the latest IDW comic (#9 "Return of the Archons"), has Sulu being groomed for some secret project, and then he and O'Neill (and later Kirk's landing party) going undercover on Beta III. We were promised that the comics would be peppered with easter eggs for the next movie.

The uniforms themselves really aren't terrible. It's just the hats that are the problem.

Between the material and the shape of the top (how it's pointed like the old Soviet covers) just isn't a very ascetically pleasing blend.

I think they would have been better off imitating the current U.S. or British officer covers with the cloth, rounded crown and plastic bill.

Also, having it two colors would have helped a lot in making it look a more appropriate size--like have the crown solid black and the bill department color. And maybe throw in a gold fleur under the delta that designates rank like the modern covers do, also.

I can hear it now: "You'd think they could have done better than to just imitate U.S. or British officer covers with the cloth, rounded crown and plastic bill. Needed different material and a more unique shape to the top."

We don't even know why they're wearing those uniforms. Let's not judge too quickly.
I was thinking the same thing...

Most of those pictures were obviously taken NOT during filming. The story even says many of those pictures were taken at the "cast farewell party" after principle photography was complete. So, even though I have no idea why Yelchin and Pegg would be wearing uniforms if not as movie wardrobe, there is a chance those uniforms were NOT pieces of movie wardrobe.

Maybe they were wearing those as some sort of cast wrap-party joke, or maybe a little cast party skit that Pegg and Yelchin performed, just for fun.

Or the pictures taken with Pegg and Yelchin were taken earlier, just as the last scene in production was being filmed.
