Your Favorite Matt Jefferies/Jim Rugg Special Effect Prop???

The twirling moire pattern generator on Spock's science station is pretty cool, too.

Wish it kept spinning in later eps. That always draws my attention -- the not-spinning.

The late Jim Rugg said that during the 3rd season he was notified that the moire pattern generator was not turning. He found that the motor was burned out, but there was no money in the budget to replace it.

I spoke with Jim Rugg a few times. He told me that Nimoy asked for the moire device's motor to be turned off because he felt it was visually distracting.

certainly written with cheap in mind
The expense with Ellison comes later when he sues you.

:)

LOL!

And Maurice, saying H Ellison had "grandiose concepts"... how is that a dig? Grandiose is good. I might have me a few slightly gradiose concepts myself, or I hope to. Grandoise isn't always practical, but exercising imagination's always good.
That's fine, but people constantly take cracks are Harlan for writing expensive "unfilmable" stuff in the script, for City, which was not the case. Criticism is fair when it's accurate.

That makes more sense to me than a broken motor, but they should have replaced the graphic since the stationary moire looks pointless.
