I hate the dumbass moral decision made in that episode. Everything else about it was quite good though. Kind of like ANIS--I hate Archer being an idiot in that episode but the rest of it is lovely. Yes I said ANIS was lovely.

Personally would prefer to think that after receiving Archer's report, Starfleet leadership would (maybe years later) send a expedition to rectify Archer's error in judgement. The dominate race wasn't going to die out right away. There was a good deal of time to save them.

Dear Doctor is one of the episodes that made the biggest impression on me.

So what if you would have made an other decision? This was an episode that took the time to play out someone's moral dilemma instead of being just shoot-and-fun.

One of the best things about ENT is that these characters weren't know-it-all goodie-two-shoes like Picard and co.

Except that it wasn't supposed to be the Captain's dilemma in the first place. A Captian should know better than to play God.

Sure, Kirk did it. but... He had a full century of Starfleet history to learn from, whilst Archer did not. And his inexperience is a petty excuse.

As I said, the responsible course of action would be to report to his superiors. This was not a decision for one man to make. This was a complex matter, with complex implications.

Plus, let's not forget one simple fact. Phlox was wrong.

The Prime Directive is more about hubris then anything at all.

Then the episode should have been about the crew making a mistake and creating an unsolvable problem for the Valakians. That would have given Archer and crew a real reason to adopt a Prime Directive-like protocol in the future.
