A little off topic, but I got an email saying that my copy of "Forgotten History" will be with me in June, because Amazon UK are awaiting stock from their suppliers. I hope for Christopher's sake it means the first lot sold out, rather than just Amazon being annoyingly slow. On the plus side, "Plagues of Night" shipped and I should have it by tomorrow.
Argh!! Still don't have this in my greedy hands!! Should arive somewhere this week. I'm really looking forward to it, since Watching The Clock was a highlight of TrekLit last year.

I finished Forgotten History yesterday. I loved it. I hope they do another DTI novel. I really like all the DTI agents, and overall the two DTI books have made time travel interesting to me. For the most part I find Time Travel stories, especially in Star Trek, boring (Trials & Tribulations and First Contact being exceptions). But, the two DTI books were very good. I hope to see Dulmur, Lucsly and the rest in future books.
I'm only about 35 pages in, and already hooked!! I love DTI. BTW, Christopher, it's nice to know now why Spoiler: tiny spoiler.... you requested images of how the Enterprise would look like without a saucersection and neck and bridge directly atop the engineering section a while back.
Finished it yesterday. Really loved it, different then Watching The Clock, but not bad different, just different. But at the same time definatly a Christopher L Bennett novel, full of science, good characerts and good use of characters. Solid plot, and I was amazed with the passages involving Spoiler: Here be spoilers!!! the KAC and the alternate look at a Vulcan that might have been. Such a new and fresh way of looking at thing. I wouldn't mind a novel set in that universe. But, I do hope the next TrekLit novel by Christopher will be something other then DTI. I love what you've done with this, but I'd love to see you return to Titan, or perhaps another 'Buried Age'-like book, dealing with familiar characters in new settings.
I just finished it and I loved it. I could'nt tell how far before this is set before typhon pact? And will there be a third book?
I'm about two thirds of the way through and I'm loving it. Some books you just race through and this is certainly one of those - despite the science and technical details it fairly fizzes along ! Intelligent, entertaining and fun ! Lots of continuity nods and gap filling too. When do we get the annotations Christopher ?
I just finished the book in about 24 hours, and have to say that OT was even better than Watching the Clock, which is quite an accomplishment given how excellent WtC is. I'm much less familiar with and invested in the original Star Trek than I am in its successor spinoff series, but the book went a long way towards giving me a greater appreciation for the series and its characters and setting in much the same way that Star Trek Vanguard did. One of the things I enjoyed most about Watching the Clock is/was the DTI itself and the characters who work for it, and this book continued to expand on them and the organization in surprising and interesting ways. I also really enjoyed the book's depiction and use of alternate timelines, something that I personally think is one of Christopher's greatest strengths as a writer and storyteller. I think my favorite AU character was T'Pring; I especially liked that she and Spock actually participated in ponn far togethet, especially since it added some interesting new layers to Spock's character. Even with only two books released, DTI has quicky established itself as one of my favorite Trek Lit series and I would absolutely love for it to continue, even if Christopher doesn't write any more installments. I'm giving the book an Excellent rating, and, as noted, really hope that more DTI books are greenlit by the editors at Pocket.
^^^^ I agree that it would be great to see other writers tackle the DTI. Not because I don't live Christopher's work, I do. But it would be fun to see what other can do with these characters, and perhaps that way Christopher could write more Titan, or some standalone novels like Ex Machina or The Buried Age.
I finished this yesterday, and very much enjoyed it. All the TOS/TAS time travel adventures were tied together with the evolution of the DTI really well. I always love it when a character with two seconds of air time (or, in the case of Dr. Grey, four frames of animation) gets featured. And I've been wanting to learn more about the Vedala for many years! That was certainly a pleasent suprise. I liked that Sybok got a mention, too. My only complaint is Dulmur's incessant use of the word "partner"
I finished today and Chris has done it again! So good! I love how there are so many plot threads from so many episodes woven together to make a very cohesive story. It is nice to have a stand-alone story in Trek. Reading this makes me think they should have had Chris write the Romulan war, with his knowledge of Trek I feel like it would have been much more epic.
I actually kind of like "The Fight." I hate boxing, but the episode is even-handed about it, with the Doctor pointing out its hazards and general lunacy, and it's well-utilized as a metaphor for working through pain and hardship to achieve a goal.
