The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

There isn't one in my hometown proper but rather next door in a smaller city. Tuesday Morning is supposedly a lot like Marshalls or TJMaxx so expect to see similar layouts and inventory if you're familiar with those chains.

I'll be sure to act on it, thanks man! I got sidetracked the other day and didn't go to the TRU site to look into it. :techman:

Ahhhh, the Moody Blues. One of the best bands in pop history. Thanks for that..."In Your Wildest Dreams" is my all-time favorite of their tracks.

More Breaking News!

Jedi Temple Archives reports that FYE stores are stocking the brand new Dr. Evazan wave of the Vintage Collection(2012 Wave 4) for $10.99 apiece, and this selection includes the repacks of 2011 figures that come with the five new figures in the wave. One of the 2011 repacks is the highly sought-after ARC Trooper Commander which was kinda hard to find last year.

Check 'em out! Case fresh, baby! If any of you guys and gals don't have the Evazan wave yet(Evazan, Aayla Secura, Kithaba, Nom Anor, 501st Legion Clone Trooper) check out your local FYE store(s)!

Is there a second FYE anywhere in your area that you can check? I remember you saying you were scoping for Nom Anor.

Mine stocks Star Wars figures, but most of the time it's much older ones like the 2011 AOTC wave(Mace, Peasant Anakin, Peasant Padme). I need to call or drive out there and see if they've updated their stock since my last visit a couple of months ago.

Nope. There's only one in the area that I know of. The toy gods hate me. This I know. The only toys that my FYE ever stocks are some of the NECA Player Select stuff, and they've had the same stock for close to a year.

Wow. That sucks, bro. Well, at least you can order all your awesome Hot Toys collectibles and not have to rely on local stores for them. That's something, and at least you get top-notch quality for your investments. Even when you have a lot of stores in your local area there's no guarantee you can ever find anything.

Trust me.

Just surfacing on eBay:

The recently cancelled or delayed Battle of Naboo Battle Pack that was supposed to be a Target exclusive to coincide with the release of Episode I 3-D back in February. This Battle Pack was unceremoniously nixed by the company without any fanfare and packaged samples have been nowhere to be seen until now. Caveat emptor, though...the Buy It Now option for this thing?

$2,000

:wtf:  :wtf:

I finally got my Batman Inc. Batman from BBTS yesterday morning and I'm quite impressed. My goal is to get a Damian Wayne that doesn't cost over thirty bucks, which seems a little impossible. Failed on getting Big Time Spider-Man or Future Foundation Spidey, but might get the revision wave when it comes out. Stores are completely sold out of them it seems.

Big Bad Toy Store is the only way to do things sometimes. Not familiar with "Batman Inc." though...I'm gonna have to Google that one to see what the line looks like. Do they carry these in retail stores? If so I've never noticed.

Those would be from DC Direct, which can only be found online or in comic book shops. Their quality is inconsistent, but they've been getting a whole lot better as of late. If they would improve their articulation, I would be collecting the hell out of them.

Ahhhhh, okay. I knew I wasn't familiar with them, that's all I was sure of. To be frank I just don't pay much attention to most superhero figures unless it's the new AVENGERS stuff and even then I'm not terribly impressed with a good deal of it. Hey, what do you think of the $2,000 eBay auction above? Can you believe the stones on the person selling this thing?!?

Cancelled item or not, all the molds in this set are reused from past years and I don't think there's one single truly new item in the entire thing except for the packaging itself. And yet, part of me thinks some well-off collector somewhere will bid on this thing or even buy it outright just so they can brag they were one of the first people on the planet to get their hands on this Battle Pack.

I saw then at Red Rocks in 1984, great show.

Even if it is a cancelled item, it's freaking Gunguns.

Some Toys R Us in Des Moines was very very naughty, and broke the 5/28 street date for the Dark Knight Rises Figures:

Mine! All mine! Now, countdown to them riding ponies. ;)

Congrats, man!

It's always awesome scoring new stuff before the official street date, isn't it? Hey...the store did the wrong thing, not you! You legally paid for these figures!

I remember when some Episode I 3-D merchandise leaked out before January 30th there were stores where they'd take new figures off the pegs and put them back in the cardboard shipping cases just to avoid getting in trouble in case a Hasbro rep happened by. They didn't even bother putting most of the prices in the store computers until closer to January 30 to discourage early leaks and sales, though some items slipped through and had already been programmed into the system.

Well, the Batman is the exact same Batman the Dark Knight version, that I have somehow managed to avoid picking up at all, so this doesn't matter so much to me. Alfred uses the same body as Harvey Dent, from what I can tell, but it's freaking Alfred! More than that, it's Michael Cain! as Alfred! Now we need a Lucius Fox! Bane is all new, and he's easily the best of the bunch. I don't know if I'll love the character in the movie yet, but I love this figure.

All three of them come with a build-a-figure part, but this tike it's a bit different. It's more of a build-an-accesory Bat-signal. So, I have half of a non-functioning Bat-signal right now. From what I can tell so far, though, it looks like it's movie accurate in both design and scale. The rest of the pieces will come with the second wave which will be Catwoman, John Blake, and a mystery character.

Great looking figures! I kind of wish they'd put the "Adult Collectible" lettering on some STAR WARS packaging and just ditch the pretense that these things are aimed at little kids. This isn't 1980 anymore, you know? I'm sure they'd complain about a loss of sales if they rebranded 3.75" figures "adult collectibles" instead of action figures for ages 4 and up, but let's face facts. How many little kids buy this stuff anymore? Very rarely do I see anyone younger than a teenager browsing through figure pegs.

Yeah, who exactly is buying an action figure of a Rebel pilot that only appeared in a deleted scene? I'm pretty sure that's not the little kids.

Yeah, I know. I mean...Nom Anor? If most kids see him they'd probably think he's a new version of Skeletor from MotU or something. The only people who know who Nom Anor is are usually grown adults familiar with the post-ROTJ Yuuzhan Vong books and graphic novels. Similar goes for Kithaba the Skiff Guard. I mean, there are adults who don't know who on earth he is so what are the chances some eight-year-old is going to see him on a store peg and beg his parent or parents to get "the Jabba guard guy" for him? I had to be reminded which character Kithaba was before the figure came out, so what chance does an elementary school tyke have recognizing many of these figures? Just relabel them "Adult Collectibles" and make things plainer and easier. Besides, the CLONE WARS line is still there for the kiddies if Hasbro wants to aim part of its product at the under-13 set.
