I loved the story of the little boy getting to meet the Avengers.

The Evans' mother must be a sweet lady. I heard something similar about her and her other actor son. What is his name? I think it is Scott. I don't recall the particulars though.

It was great of Tom Hiddleston to be so kind.

I went back last night and watched it for the second time. I really don't remember what I gave it in the poll but I would still go for a solid B+ or A.

I would say that The Dark Knight is my favorite comic book movie of all time. It is in A+ territory all by itself.

However, I value The Avengers for different things.

I don't feel that it got bogged down by exposition. I don't feel that they just blew shit up to take up screen time. And, it actually worked well as an ensemble film. I don't feel that any of the characters were really short changed, and it did a great job of introducing characters from a slew of films that many people may not have seen.

Personally I had only seen Thor and the 1st Iron Man. But the characters were introduced into this movie in such a way that I understood enough of their backstory to get what they were doing in the film.

The movie was not vulgar nor did I feel it to be condescending and mindless either.

Any more too many movies go for the cheap joke or just explosion after explosion to hide their lack of plot.

Was it Shakespeare? (Not even Shakespeare in the park.) However, it was well paced, pretty well written and good fun.

I left the movie theater having had a good time and did not feel cheated or slimy.

Agreed. The movie is a big helping of fun and entertainment, without being obnoxious or stupid. It has the added excitement of the team-up, of course. But mostly it has the laughs, the fun and the spectacle, while maintaining just enough self-deprecation and self-awareness.

Marvel has relased a nice big timeline for the MCU as it stands currently. Too bad they didn't do this for each release as I know we've all been pulling our hair out to get the timeline synched up!!

    "Before Iron Man"
    "After Iron Man"
    :rommie::cool:

I prefer THIS ONE which puts things on specific dates and and sort of makes it a little more clearer when they take place. Though it does seem to be a "fan produced" one so the specific dates it cites aren't likely to be accurate.

That Marvel one is a bit hard to understand given that we're not given dates or anything just "x-hours later", "days later" and such and the callouts aren't entirely clear on where they are in relation to one another. (EDIT: I see they're using Tony Stark's "I am Iron Man" as "point 0" so everything is based around that. Which is still an odd way of doing things and makes it difficult to real pin down "when" everything is.)

Yeah, the only way to really narrow down "when" everything takes place is by using the final Captain America entry. According to Marvel, Cap crashes the bomber in 1945, sixty-four years "BIM." That means IM1 takes place in 2009, and every movie after that in 2010, which is when the fan-made timeline that Trekker linked to (which I also prefer) was at least right about that.

It's pretty clear from the movies and hints in them that Iron Man 2, TIH ad Thor all pretty much take place at the same time. (In Iron Man 2 in the SHIELD office at the end footage of the battle with Hulk at the University can be seen on one of the screens, also in the movie Coulson mentions going on a mission which the end-credits scene shows was recovering Mjolnir in the desert.)

Iron Man is obviously the earliest point in the MCU (other than, of course, the 1940s time period of CA and the BCE portions of Thor.) The only movie that's hard to "peg down" is Captain America as there's not much to clue us in on when he woke-up in present day.

All we know is that Cap was found one year after all the other movies (per Fury's Big Week), which would be May 2011.

    ^ I'm considering that myself.

After paging through "Fury's Big Week", I was a little shocked to learn that the SHIELD/NASA research base in the begining of the film was actually...

Did I imagine seeing that on a wall plaque in one of those blink and you miss it moments. Where when you freeze frame it on DVD you'll clearly see it, like the Infinity Gauntlet around the 11min mark in Thor.

No, you didn't, it was there and quite longer that the other example.

BTW, last week they released the second issue of three of Black Widow Strikes, concerning Black Widow's mission in Russia between Iron Man 2 and The Avengers.

This comics (like Fury's Big Week, and the trade collecting I am Iron Man, IM2 Agents of SHIELD, IM2 Public Identity & Captain America First Vengeance) bears the "Official Marvel Cinematic Universe Tie-In" red logo.

I went to see Avengers for a second time this week. It was every bit as good the second time as the first. What a kick ass movie! Anyways I stayed through the end credits to see the Thanos and shawarma scenes and couldn't believe it when Soundgarden started playing. Even the f#cking credits kick ass!

Agreed. There's not actually anything funny about this. It's making fun of things that aren't worthy of being made fun of, and is just coming of sounding like a whiny jerk that doesn't like the movie for the sake of not liking it.

I wouldn't have had a problem with it if any of the jokes were actually funny, or any of the things they were making fun of were actually legitimate problems.
