Once Upon a Time (ABC) - 1x02 till the bitter end

I saw the first 12 episodes of dead zone last night.

Half way through, this small town full of assholes tried to burn Anthony Michael Hall at the stake as a witch because there was nothing on TV.

it's a hospital.

They deal with drunk crazy psychos all the time.

I remember this episode of ER where they're introducing Vhelma from Scoobie Doo as she is using Judo to bring a drunk dickhead twice her size to the ground and then punching him in the throat.

An onlooker says "How, how did you do that?"

Shruggin' no-big, he replies "I'm a nurse."

Blue Screen reboot?

That's clever :)

No one took out Regina? The nun should have decked and the rest of the hospital staff should have removed her limbs. Where's the fricking venom? They'd been cursed by a witch!

C'mon, they were still in shock. They'd just undergone the human equivalent of a blue-screen/reboot. A few more minutes to recover, and they would've formed a posse and gone after her. And besides, there was no magic in Storybrooke at that moment - she was still dangerous, but it wasn't like she could take on the whole town...Oops. Thanks a lot, Rumpy.

I do agree they were a bit too quick to deal with Maleficent. How do we meet Princess Aurora now?

Forget Aurora, I want Merlin to show up and throw some magic badassery Regina & Gold's way. (Maybe a cameo by Madam Mim)

King Arthur wouldn't go amiss either.

Still love the one look on Jiminy's face. "oh shit, I'm a cricket".
and unless I blinked and missed it he didn't suddenly transform into a cricket... Which would I think mean that August is still wooden man lying in a bed.

It didn't seem like the curse being lifted made physical changes, just mental/memory changes. Although Mr. Gold letting magic loose may bring about those reversions.

Yeah, it should be interesting to see where they take the show from here.

My guess would be a magical "arms race" for at least the first few episodes as battle lines are drawn.

That was an incredibly rushed finale. I think it would have been better had those events been spaced out over two or three episodes. Nothing had the proper weight or impact that it should have had because things were flying by way too fast. Emma seemed to go into shock as soon as she realized the truth and then became an emotionless sword and gun wielding robot. There was nothing in this episode that approached the greatness of Regina and Gold revealing themselves to each other in the jail earlier in the season, and considering the stakes and events in the finale there was superb material to create some great scenes. Instead everything was rushed.

But with that said, kudos to the writers for a willingness to take the show into new territory. Ending the curse and bringing magic to Earth should expand the premise of the show enough to offer a lot of creative avenues.

Agreed, Caliburn24. That finale did feel a little too fast-paced, a bit too quickly resolved. Emma all of a sudden believed, and next thing you know.... she's battling a dragon. For real. But I liked her facial expressions. "Now that I believe... THIS is what happens?"

Taking this spin of bringing the magic to THIS world.... it makes it almost a different show, but that's a good thing. Like you've said, the creative possibilities could be wide indeed

I agree that it seemed rushed.

However, I bought into Emma's belief and determination for one reason; I truly believe that the only thing she has ever truly cared about in her life is Henry. She was then confronted by a Dr. telling her that there was no medical reason for his condition. That stress compounded by August and Henry telling her for weeks that something was afoot made her grasp at the straw of them really being cursed.

Desperate people will cling to or grab hold of any ray of light. So she then body slammed Regina and her Majesty confirmed it all. At that point I think Emma was just too dang stunned. Dragons be damned.

The show also mader her a killer BTW. It looked like a dragon and spewed fire like a dragon but ole Mal was a real person was she not? I guess a mother will do anything for her kid.

I liked that Jefferson decided to screw the Queen over and let out Belle, but the pace of the ep made that entirely too frantic.

Gold has only really loved two people his whole life - Bea and Belle. Belle being returned to him should have had more of a punch. RC sold the scene with the few seconds they got, but... I felt that what happened in the finale could have made a good 3 eps.

So the ending begs quite a few questions....
1. Did Gold put the curse back in place or bring Magic to Storybrooke? I am betting on him bringing magic.
2. Did he do it to hoo doo the Queen or is he motivated by his desire to find Bea? I think all of this will ultimately have to do with Rumple's search for his son.
3. This ending does point to Gold being the master manipulator. I assume he put all of this in motion so that he could be sent to this world to find Bea? (Kind of a retread of 2 I know.)
4. Does that mean that Pinocchio is no longer wooden?
5. Did they show Graham for a reason? Is he still dead? Why put Jamie Dornan in the ep unless Graham factors in some how?
6. Was that Sidney ocuppying the cell in the nut house next to Belle? The door tag read "S. Glass."
7. So Regina really loved Henry. Are we to believe that she is not going to fight tooth and nail to keep that kid?
8. How creepy is it going to be for Emma to have parents the same age she is?
9. If the magic is back, does Ruby revert to her wolfing ways?
10. Who the heck is Dr. Whale?

Huh. pretty surprised by the finale. I didn't expect the curse to be lifted so early in the series, I hope it doesn't mean that they're going to do a reset down the line and have them somehow lose their memories again.

My feelings on it depend a lot on what Mr. Gold's spell is going to do. I hope it's not lame. Nice to see Emma giving it to the evil queen, too.

Wow, I thought the final twist was just gonna be Emma learning the truth or getting trapped in Fairy Land or something. I didn't expect the entire freakin curse to be lifted and for her to fight a giant dragon!

I agree the episode was a bit more rushed that I would like, but it also made for a very fun and event-filled hour, which is more than you can say for a lot of shows.

As for next season, who knows. We know Rumple wants to find his son, so my guess is they still all remember who they are, but are now able to leave Storybrooke and venture out into the real world. Which would be a lot of fun to see.

Btw, kudos on the dragon effects! Looked like the one from the movie, but even better! So glad they didn't cheap out on the fx.

Hurray, the stupid curse amnesia plotline is over with! :rommie: :bolian:

Emma realizing the truth simply by picking up the book was lame and under-dramatized. Hasn't she touched the stupid book before?

It would have been better if she stayed in the dark until something smacked her in the face that she couldn't ignore - being transported to Fairyland or confronted with a dragon (how would she have seen the dragon? as an iguana?) Then the moment of her awakening would be fun and exciting, not a contrivance.

I did expect her to fight with Maleficent/the dragon for the magical doodad to cure Henry, but I didn't expect it till next season. They could have made more hay out of her quest.

Good job with the dragon SFX, very nice by TV standards. August turning fully into a wooden statue was eerie and also nicely done.

With the amnesia garbage out of the way, next season should be an improvement. Will people in the outside world be able to tell that something really strange is going on in that town? Will Storybrook residents start to wreak havoc in Bangor, Boston and beyond?

PS, Jefferson was shockingly evil, poisoning Henry like that, just to get back at Regina. I hope they play up his dangerous, demented side next season.

There's always room for a new colorful villain and with everyone woken up, the battle lines will have to be drawn. The good guys are united and there are more of them, so it's not really a fair fight against the villains who all hate each other and can't form an effective team the way things are now.

Something needs to happen to even the odds. Maybe Rumple has finagled his purple magic curse to give him some secret advantage. He'd hardly be likely to dispense magic equally across the land in a philanthropic fashion. Maybe anyone who uses magic - except for him - finds it boomerangs on them? Yeah, that would be his style.

^?? Jefferson poisoned no one. He opened a small portal for Regina, without knowing what her plans were. Certainly he knew she was up to no good, but all she had said to him was that she was seeking a solution to a problem.

Regina attempted to poison Emma. Henry stopped Emma from eating the apple turnover. Henry then deliberately poisened himself, to show Emma that there was indeed magic happening.

I always assumed Dr Whale was the whale in Pinochio... and for his (and Ruby's) sake, I hope things don't automatically revert back to Fairytale ways.

I loved the ending. I loved how Emma was willing to consider Henry's thesis when he was in an unexplainable coma but I don't think the book sealed it for her. I think the book opened her mind and the QUEEN sealed the deal for the savior when she admitted to trying to poison Emma.

Its one thing for everyone (Graham, Henry, August) to try and tell Emma something wicked this way comes. Its quite another thing for that WHICH IS WICKED to admit that its TRUE!

As for final hugs... I liked having Henry with Emma and Snow with Charming and not all 4 together. Despite knowing she's his "Grandmother", Henry never seems any more interested in MM than the average student with a great teacher... and vice a versa, and he's never (IIRC) leaned towards his "Grandfather" at all.

I did like Emma/Henry... Snow/Charming... Granny/Ruby... and even Rumple/Belle.

I missed August, not to mention Jefferson/his daughter and of course the ever elusive Baelfire. (sp?)

Oh well, that's why they have season premieres!

So, Regina NEVER kissed Henry, on his sickbed, or ever before that, or her love was impure?

Or nobody ever loved anyone truly in Stroybrook?

Or is it only the precise true love tied into Emma's conception that was the key, other quantities of true love vibrate at different emotional frequencies, no less true, just differently true... Which would mean that mixing up Emma's true love with another true love would add impurities to her true love and it couldn't get the job done... Only something incestuous would be suitably righteous. I suppose of the options, kissing her son, knowing that he is her son with a non-romantic mothers love for her son, is much better than bedding her mother or father without knowing that... How cold did it get in that loft with Emma and Mary Margaret? If they had "lezzzed" it up a little, would their true love which the anatomy of which would have been correctly compatible with the curse to break it... But then Snow and Charming off in their hideaway were supposedly kissing and doing it hammer and tongs and that didn't effect squat.

Seriously.

Regina should have accidentally broken the curse with true loves kiss in a totally Life of Brian sort of way that we've been following the wrong chosen one the whole time...

Have you ever seen Wicked?

^^ Yes.

Well, that episode was certainly jam-packed. A little odd, but mostly satisfying. What exactly is that purple mist going to do, though? Return them to Fairy Tale Land or bring magic to this world? Regina certainly looked pretty happy, which can't be good.

But what I want to know is how they kept that big honkin' dragon in the basement for twenty years without it breaking out. And how is it a dragon if there's no more magic?
