Didn't Penn write X-Men: First Class? That flick was pretty well written. Did Vaughn and Jane Goldman do any work on that one? I can't remember.

Yeah, it would have been cool to see Cap do it but at the same time probably wouldn't make much sense to those in the audience who don't get what that means especially after seeing Hulk struggle to pick it up. You'd need some exposition in there explaining only those worthy can pick up Mjolnir.

True, but that explanation could be made pretty fast. Maybe streamline it by showing Iron Man earlier in the movie also trying to pick it up and failing.

I know that and about X2. But I could swear I read that he was involved in at least the early stages of First Class. I'd have to do some looking.

Edit:

Here we go!

After I poked around a bit, Penn admitted that he was originally signed on to write and direct a "young X-Men film," but that's recently changed. Says Penn, "The original idea was to have me do a young X-Men spin-off, a spin-off of the young X-Men characters. But someone came up with a pretty interesting idea which I can't discuss. I was pretty taken by it, as was the studio. I have to give him credit, it was this guy who worked with me named Mike Chamoy -- he worked a lot with me on X3. He came up with how to do a young X-Men movie which is not what you'd expect. We'll see; I still have to talk to Fox, set the story down ... and then it will take a year -- maybe two years -- to get together. Put it this way, if you agree to do one of the X-Men movies, it could end up happening four or five years down the line. Which is fine with me; it's just not my focus right now."

Looks like he'd been in talks to do FC but it fell through. Well... they certainly traded up. Didn't they? :)

Anyone think it would have been cool to show Captain America picking up Thor's hammer? Maybe during the battle Thor gets knocked for a loop, Cap's shield is lost somewhere, and he reaches for the nearest weapon available. Just until Thor is back on his feet.

Not a "sword in the stone" moment or a "hero wields ultimate weapon" moment, just a quick look of surprise by Thor that confirms what we already know: He's worthy.

Or maybe Mjolnir lands at Cap's feet and he just tosses it back to Thor, ala 390.

I think that makes sense. Spiderman and X-Men stand well on their own. The others would feel out of place too.

My idea is that during a fight, Thor gets knocked down and separated from Mjolnir. Then after the fight's over, we get a close-up of Mjolnir just as someone lifts it off of the ground. Thor gets to his feet, looking surprised, and then we cut to Cap walking over and handing Mjolnir back to Thor, then walking off without even really realizing what he'd just done. Sort of a "Cap is worthy of the hammer, but it belongs with Thor" moment.

They need to save that for when they do a three-hour Kree-Skrull War movie. Also, they really need to do a three-hour Kree-Skrull War movie.

Another cool thing could been Thor using Caps Shield and remarking he should get one of his own.

Don't look for Spider-man, Beast or Wolverine to join the Avengers lineup anytime during this incarnation of the team with these actors it seems.

The publisher's parent company has revealed that it has no intention of pursuing the rights to properties owned by other studios, reports ComicBook.com.

I couldn't imagine them getting Spider-Man and X-Men back for less than a billion dollars. Why bother when they own the Avengers? Right now, it looks like the Avengers franchise is a license to print money. If Fox and Sony are smart they might want to finagle a co-production with Disney on crossover flicks. Who wouldn't want to see Avengers vs. X-Men?

I wouldn't. :p The only property I'd like to see Marvel get back is the Fantastic Four.

I like that idea better.:techman:

I imaging they could get FF back quite cheaply. Those movies didn't exactly set the box office on fire the way the Spidey or X flicks did.

I'm not necessarily interested in seeing Spidey or Wolverine become a part of the Avengers lineup; I just think it would be cool as hell to have them pop up in the same movie and assist the Avengers in some way. Or help out in the final giant battle.

yeah, i could see how that would go...
