Star Wars EU

Do we know what Del Ray is planning for the novels yet? [...]
I hope they go back to doing smaller stories. After the lenghty Legacy and Fate series they really need to start doing single books, dulogies and the ocassional trilogy.
In July of last year, Random House claimed that FOTJ: Apocalypse would contain an "extensive excerpt" of the first book in the next series, but I just looked through my copy of Apocalypse (haven't had time to start reading it yet) and the only excerpts are for X-Wing: Mercy Kill and Scourge. I think the only certain thing currently known is also from that article, namely that the next series won't be another nine-book series.

I read that the Final Fate of the Jedi novel ties into a story arc from the Clone Wars animated series so I think I'll stick with it. I wish that they'd ease up on the darkness. I want to see more of the fun swashbucking Star Wars stuff for a change.

Scourge was just released today. Might want to give it more time before you include phrases like "by now."

I would consider "Fate of the Jedi" to definitely be lighter in tone than "Legacy of the Force" since that story was more of a tragedy. Actually I thought it was quite fun. It was awesome to see
Luke and the Jedi slicing and dicing armies of Sith.

Revan(Finally a book about his fate)

Except it wasn't, which is why there was so much griping about it. People expected it to end Revan's story from KOTOR where it was created instead to tie Revan into SWTOR. If you go into it knowing it isn't an ending, but rather is link in a chain than it probably would be more enjoyable read...and if you aren't pissed that the story is continued in an MMO, which was the camp I was in until I started to play the game.

^ That maybe so but it still generally takes people time to get the book and then read it.

I'm guessing that announcements on future projects will come at either SDCC or Celebration VI later this year.

Agreed. While LEGACY OF THE FORCE is much better than the NJO, the nine novels (as opposed to NJO's atrocious 19) were still too much.

I'm waiting for the entire FATE OF THE JEDI series to be released in paperback, and already, the though of ANOTHER nine parter......ugh.

I really hope they don't do more than trilogies (if they can't do singles) from now on.

I'm thinking that they will go back to self contained books, but who knows. I believe that the recession hit just as they had announced that Fate of the Jedi was going to be released entirely in hardcover. Or it was pretty close. I felt at the time that it was a bad idea to release an entire series in hardcover, it was one of the reasons why I didn't really have much interest in the books.

LOTF was a good idea, just poorly executed (as I mentioned in my spoiler-tagged post earlier in the thread). Not only did they screw up Jacen's storyline, but LOTF really could have been told in three books and it probably would have turned out better if it had been. The nine novels was just a cheap gimmick to siphon more cash out of people, and FOTJ was even worse because all nine books were hardcovers.

Let's not forget they made Daala COS, worst idea ever. Its like Kahn or Gowron being the Federation president.

Yeah making them all hardcovers is such a rip-off! I get them from the library. I also agree 9 books is too much, but 3 is too little, more like 6 would be good.

I never understood this decision. And even worse...

... that she didn't die in the final FotJ novel.

But thankfully, they've stated that post-FotJ, the stories will be more varied and told in more single novels / duologies / trilogies. No more lengthy book series for a while, which I'm glad.
