Your favorite "All in the Family" moments

"The fact that you happen to married to Edith is beyond my control. Like any other freak of nature. Now you can either come to the table or lie there and feed off of your own fat. And if you choose the latter, you could probably lie there for months."

 :guffaw:

Some great moments posted. Another classic is "A can of mmm-hmm-hmmm -- in heavy syrup!" And for some reason, a line I've always remembered since I was a kid is when Archie, sad that Mike and Gloria and Joey are moving, explains why he won't visit California: "I don't like an ocean where the sun goes down, I like an ocean where the sun comes up."

As far as confrontations, Maude was the best of course but I always liked Henry Jefferson, too. He had an understated wit I liked better than George's going over the top.

Later on in her career Sally Struthers was in commercials a lot and people kind of thought of her as a joke. But she was really, really good in All in the Family, an excellent comedienne and great at playing both independent and vulnerable. I can't imagine anyone else as "little girl."

The talent on that show was amazing. I love Archie, but in the episodes when Archie is out of town at a convention Stapleton, Struthers and Reiner have no trouble holding their own.

Archie: "Try Joisey!"

Mike: "I HATE Jersey!"

Archie: "Everybody hates Joisey, but somebody's gotta live there!"

In some of those scenes, you have to wonder how Carol and Rob are able to keep straight faces.

I would have tears coming down my face because I was laughing so hard at the scenes were Edith would be cheerfully nattering along on the phone and Archie would pantomime killing himself by loading a gun or tying up a noose and hanging himself. :guffaw: If you could find one of those clips I'd be eternally grateful. I remember spitting out my tea watching those scenes for the fiftieth time in reruns.

I love the little touches that Archie puts in - especially when he makes sure the "rope" has enough slack.

This one had me in stitches.

"What was he using my chair for, a trampaloon?!"

"Archie, they lost your chai--"
"Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooost?"

I loved the part when Gloria ran out and Edith tried to call her back by saying "It's not your fault" and she goes "Yes it is! I married Michael!"

Archie objecting to Mike and Gloria leaving their baby with a young sitter.

"A babysitter oughta at least be outta puberies!"

And this comes from my absolutely favorite episode:

And I say favorite because in this one Michael gets hoisted on his own liberal petard as well as Archie.
