"James Bond 23" officially slated for 2012!

Looks great, but Bond is supposed to be perpetually around 40 years old. Daniel Craig looks like he's aging early, though he still looks awesome.

Also, he seems to be using a Walther PPK, yet again. Bond inexplicably switched back to the old gun last movie, and he seems to be keeping it. I understand it's iconic, and they are in fact still making modern versions of the gun, but I would have thought that a guy who gets in as many gunfights as this guy would carry something with a bit more kick, or at least more bullets. I miss the days when he carried around the P99. :)

Mark

Bond doesn't need lots of ammo 'cos he he can shoot strighter than the average action hero :p

I guess the in universe answer is that concealment is more important to someone in Bonds line of work than anything else, although it depends on the situation I guess.

Of course Roger Moore used a .44 magnum ;)

I agree about the aging thing, he's always looked older than his years and whilst I don't think it's essential for Bond to be that suave I'm not sure Craig will still be in the role in 10 years time. I could be wrong though.

Craig is now 44, in his 3rd outing and was 38 when we first saw him as 007. Brosnan was 42 in his debut, Dalton 43 in his debut. Roger Moore was pushing 47 when he first played Bond. Only Lazenby, just under 30 when OHMSS was released and Connery, 32 in Dr No, were younger. In fact, when Connery first quit the role after You Only Live Twice, at 37 he was younger than Craig was in CR.

But yes, Craig's (appropriately for his name) craggy features are ageing a little quicker than his more conventionally handsome predecessors, while his stubble is grey.

I hope he does at least two more. While I haven't read anything to confirm this, I'm willing to bet he'll at least do another one.

^While I haven't been able to find anything indicating whether or not he agreed to it, there were the reports from December that Craig was offered a contract extension for 5 more Bond films after Skyfall.

And on the BBC last month, though he started off saying he knows there'll be a Bond after him and a Bond after that, and that he wants to make his mark on the series with this one, he will "keep playing Bond until they tell him to stop"

I think he'll do at least one more, to equal Pierce's run, and I'd like to see him go one beyond that

Wrapped in a Union flag by the looks of it!

Yeah I'd like to see him do 4 or 5, I think that's a good number, 4 would match Pierce and he deserves that, and 5 would match Connery's original run too.

I still can't figure out if he actually enjoys playing Bond or not  He certainly doesn't have that twinkle in his eye that Brosnan had, the "Fuck me I'm James Bond!" look (David Tennant had it too, well the Who variant) but it can't be about the money anymore.

Saw something the other day to suggest there'd be a few more one liners in this...

The pictures all look great (though he seems to be cosplaying as Sherlock in that last one). I certainly hope he does a few more, though hopefully they'll know he's leaving far enough in advance to give him a better send off than all (bar the obvious one film wonder) predcesors had. None of them really went out at their best, even if you don't count Never Say Never Again.

My Big Bond Rewatch actually reached A View To A Kill today, and whilst the great cast and top notch score means I find it huge fun, it's objectively more than a bit rubbish. Sutton is a strong contender for worst Bond girl ever (she should have a "JAAAAAAAAAAMEEESSSSSSS!!!!!!" off with Mary Goodnight), the "Disused silver mine" is clearly in Britain, many of the stunts are fairly pedestrian and Roger Moore, God bless him, despite doing better than his opinion of the film would suggest still looks... odd. And he deserved better last words than "That's not the soap. Ah, oh, ah".

It occurred to me the other day that if this is Judi Dench's last outing, she will have done 7 movies (4 with Pierce, 3 with Daniel). That's one more than Connery (not counting NSNA) and as many as Moore (who holds the record for an actor playing 007 himself).

It's unlikely that any actor or actress in the franchise will equal Lois Maxwell's 15 appearances as Moneypenny, never mind Desmond Llewelyn's 17 as Q - though in theory, if Ben Whishaw remains on, he's young enough to do so.

A casino, eh?

Well! Looking forward to Bond in a tux again. Lemme see...not too hard to predict it: A well-dressed Bond, introducing himself to the glamorous Severine: "The name's Bond. James Bond...."

Also...nice to see my suspicions confirmed about the DB5. I wonder if Q will give it some "modifications"....

By the way, I recall...there was a rumor/news-story that Anna Chapman (the Russian agent-turned-sex-symbol) was going to make some kind of appearance in this film:

http://themoscownews.com/news/20110401/188542374.html

(Note: there seems to be a LOT of over-speculation about, among other things, Ralph Fiennes's role--so it's probably to be taken with a big grain of salt....)

Regardless of the assumptions on the plot, anyone know what came of Chapman's role...or was that just that site's idea of an April Fool's Joke?

While I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility for her to show up in a very minor role (this is a film series that has featured a reality tv clamper for goodness sake) that story smells, and the smell gets worse the further down you go.

SMERSH?
Agent AK47
Finnes singing KGB songs and riding a Harley barechested

As for a sex scene. Well they've already cast a girl to be Bond's girlfriend, and there's Severine and Eve, and I think we can assume he might have a dalliance with at least one of them, and possibly both. For all his womanising rep I'm wracking my brains trying to think of a film where 007 has slept with/clearly been involved with more than 3 girls.

The low mark is probably Quantum as he's only intimate with Fields, even for it's supposed 'new man' ethos The Living Daylights features two conquests.

Obviously he tried real hard to get as many as possible in OHMSS

I know--but then, perhaps the article's writer is pulling a Chekov. :p

Have they? Can't say I remember that bit of news...any news on who that's supposed to be?

Well...first time for everything, I'd think....

Funny...I recall the Maxim article with the interview with the actress playing Olga--it has her mention an "intimate" scene with Bond.

It's as if they cut it--and then the actress notes in all the post-release interviews, "It's good that I didn't sleep with Bond, so my character's integrity wouldn't be hurt" or something....

If I remember correctly, only once.

I believe Craig is signed through Bond 24, with an option for a fifth film.
