Metamorphisis edit

TOSalltheway

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Just watched Metamorphisis on METV las night. We got to the point where Cochrane offers Hefford a bath and low and behold here great line of "how perseptive of you to notice that I needed one" was cut out. She just stood there looking at him.

Changed the entire feel of the character. Why was it edited? Did the truly need those two seconds? was it offensive?

I was really disapointed.

I can’t imagine that they would cut that innocuous line for censorship reasons. Does METV edit the episodes for time? If they do that, they’re probably cutting out little snips here and there, rather than entire scenes. Sucks, but it’s the nature of the beast. If you want the episodes unedited, watch them on DVD or Blu-Ray.

I've always thought that such edits are for time rather than content. No idea who decides what get cuts. It often seem arbitrary.

Every second cut is another second for commercials. Even a few extra seconds of commercial time means extra money.

Being immensely rich corporations, it still surprises me what they'd do to make a cent.

Almost makes you wonder if the Ferengi are behind this. :p

I own both and original and remastered on DVD. The edit just bothered me.

You own both versions on DVD and STILL watch the broadcast versions? Seems kind of redundant, doesn't it?

Speaking for myself, I own the entirerity of Star Trek on DVD (including, like you, both versions of TOS), and I haven't watch broadcast Star Trek since ENTERPRISE ended.

But of course, that's just me.:bolian:

Don't freak out. It was just done for another 10 seconds given to a Colonial Penn advertisement.

In other words, the demos say you are old and stupid.

*Sigh*

That never stops me. There's something awesome about having your favorite show, which was cancelled 40+ years ago, being shown on live TV. I may not go out of my way to watch, but if I run into it, I'll stick with it.

In a lot of ways, I miss not having Trek at my fingertips. Back in the day whe nyou had to scan TV Guide to find it and make time to watch the upcomming broadcast. I'll watch a cut broadcast episode if it's a good one.

I own it on DVD so I do not plan my day around watching it. If I flip the channels and there it is I can't help but watch it at least for a little while.

Over here, it's for drug company commercials.
I think the worst victim was The Doomsday Machine, the bit involving Decker and Spock, they just showed Decker getting out of the chair when Spock relieved him, messed up the entire scene.

You want real fun ...

Back in the 1970s, my local station had a screwed-up print of "Metamorphosis." The Apparently they had no Act III reel because they always played Act II twice.
