Thoughts on the Current Season of the Big Bang Theory

I sure hope they didn't really break a genuine transporter toy!

I wonder how many collectors had seizures when the toy fell apart?

I know the Mego figures have been re-released (so if I saw Sheldon's Spock doll catch fire, I'd laugh at his panic), but has the transporter toy experienced a new run? If not, then yeah, I'll have to cringe just a bit thinking they destroyed a genuine mid 70s toy.

Sincerely,

Bill

Ah. I'd heard right off the bat that it was only going to be a V.O., so I wasn't surprised, but I can understand.

I really enjoyed the appearance of "tiny Spock" and how they posed him; that was hilarious. I knew Nimoy had retired from making appearances, so I assumed it would be just a voice over. I really enjoyed it.

You know, this is probably the most air-time outside of those old Mego commercials (maybe moreso) this figure has experienced. It was wild seeing this poly-vinyl head (just over an inch tall) expanded to fill the screen of my 47" TV. It handles hi-def very well!

Sincerely,

Bill

I didn't realize that transporter toy was actually a real toy--I thought it was just something they produced for the episode.

Good to see the Gorn again too--they're surely getting their money's worth out of that costume.

I had been lead to believe we were going to see a flesh and blood appearance of Leonard Nimory, not just a voiceover. Just wasn't what I expected and thus I didn't find it as amusing as most you here did.

In the show's defense, it had been widely publicized that Nimoy was only doing a voiceover . . . .

I guess I've been under rock or something because I had no clue, in fact I saw a tweet from Leonard Nimoy yesterday making me think he was going to be there in the flesh.

But since I didn't know this, that was why I was let down and "felt cheated" espicially in light of the other STNG stars who have made actual on-screen appearances. Him being there in person seemed natural to me. And unfortunately that disappointment colored my thoughts about the episode as a whole. I'll probably enjoy it more the next time I see it.

ETA: I guess I can console myself with the picture shown in this link: http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/20...-and-a18-34-cbs-wins-night-in-viewers/126762/

Here's a link to the Mego Museum article and references to last nigfht's episode.

If it makes you feel any better, I myself did not know of the stand-alone version less than a year ago. I only knew of the unit built into the bridge playset/carrying case. But while browsing the MM site, I stumbled across a page about the separate toy.

Sincerely,

Bill

I figured it was probably a voice over, but held out some slight hope for a cameo since Nimoy did visit the set.

It was still damn funny seeing the doll. I hope he makes more appearances.

Now that I think about it, I guess that's why I got the impression that he was going to be there in the flesh, because he had tweeted about visiting the set and meeting the cast, and in the absence of the information about it being a voice over only (that I totally missed), I concluded that he was going to be there on screen.

Ironically had I not been following Nimoy I'm not sure I would have even known about this "appearance" in advance.

Couple of things -

When did Raj start being able to talk to women?

and

I liked the episode and I love it when a plot revolves around Star Trek, but then there's little things that let it down a bit, it's only a nitpick but when Sheldon was talking to Tiny Spock and he said "I thought they didn't have emotions on your planet" it took me out of the show because Sheldon wouldn't have said that. I mean we all know that Vulcans do have emotions and they just suppress them, and I get that it's a quick joke for the general audience but still.

And it's become a crutch for this character.. early in the show it was funny as hell but they soon wrote in that little loophole and have ever been exploiting it.

They should abandon his pathological shyness altogether and develop new things for Raj to do as i'm getting bored of the alcohol/shyness thing.

Yeah, the way the doll kept moving to emphasize his points was very funny.

I'm not sure about that. Even in the actual TOS episodes/Movies, lines such as that were used against Spock frequently to barb him about emotion. This exchange of dialogue was common enough in Trek, that it felt like the natural thing for Sheldon to say.

^But Sheldon's quite a stickler for accuracy. I can imagine if Leonard or one of the others said something along those lines Sheldon would point out his error. But like I said that's just me being really nitpicky and it was a dream anyway!

If you look carefully, there was always a glass of wine or beer bottle present in those scenes. Presumably he fortified himself in advance.

Ahhh right. It was a bit weird though because usually when he does talk to a girl they show him drinking.
they need to find a way out of that. It was a little silly him always having a drink in front of him.

maybe Leonard's mom could "cure" him of his mutism. I've loved her appearances so far.
