A board of Antony's www.B5TV.Com, Jan posts there as well as a couple other names I recognize here and there on TrekBBS. Not overly active on B5 stuff on a daily basis, but, usually when new folks come along and start conversations we chime in. There's rating/discussion threads on each episode, that folks bump up and reply to on rewatches, and first time watches.
I came to Enterprise, I admit that I did not watch it when it was on TV, it's debut was only just about a week after 9/11, and had just finished 14 years of TV trek and all the films. I had Trek burn out, not to mention the 9/11 taking my attention away. About 3 months ago, I was at the Library and found this DVD collection abut alternate Trek Time lines and the sort. So, my first real experience with Enterprise was "In a Mirror Darkly" I loved it. Must have watched it 5 times, to me these were the people on Enterprise, then about a month ago, I got Netflix's, and watched every episode of Enterprise since then, several more than once. There however is one exception, I have not decided if I want to watch "These are the Voyages" to bring Riker to Enterprise with Deanna is something I am not sure I want to see. Must add that after Mirror seeing the regular crew had me a bit confused, their Mirror doubles were so different form the crew I got to know from Broken Bow to what I consider the series final,Terra Prime, So I am still not sure about "Voyages", maybe in the future I may watch it, but not now I will have to be content with 4 great seasons, and am sad that they never had a chance to get their 7 seasons in also. I would put up the first 4 seasons of Enterprise against any other Trek series Next Gen, DS-9, Voyager, just sad we do not have another 3 seasons to enjoy this fantastic series...
Called it! I remember voting in that poll and I remember people commenting that they voted for it to annoy ENT fans.
Do yourself a favor and skip it. Not only was it completely inappropriate as a series finale, it did nothing to move the Enterprise mythos in a forward direction. In fact, because it shows some of the characters apparently regressed to pre-season 3 mode, it actually sets the character's progress back. And in fact, the continuation of the Enterprise story in the relaunch books completely undoes this pitiful little episode -- thank goodness. In other words, if you just want to witness a train wreck, go ahead and watch, but if you're looking to see "what finally happens to the NX-01 crew", it's guaranteed to leave you with a bad taste in your brain and a crappy final memory of Enterprise. And just to drop an on topic point, I too blame the TNG'ers for inclusion of TaTV in the compilation. Hey, how come I can't make a paragraph? Is this an April Fools joke?
It's some glitch in the forum that happens to some of us.. I had a thread about the problem in QSF a while ago. I never fixed it, just switched from firefox to chrome. Then after a few weeks chrome developed a similar problem so I switched back and firefox was fine. Very annoying, could also not use any buttons such as bold.
Completely agree. It didn't suck eggs. Nor was it Shakespeare. I wish they had made the characters more center stage, changed a few aspects, etc. ... but don't hate it. And despite not being a huge Troi/Riker fan, I enjoyed seeing them.
Just consider TATV as a TNG episode even though it was produced as an ENT episode. A fair few fans consider the "Terra Prime" story as a much better finalé.
Shouldn't it be "Those were the Voyages"? And really, where were the Voyages? They forgot about the last 5 years. So, factually the finale should have been called "I assure you even though there is no evidence to assert my belief that There were Voyages, There really were Voyages". Imagine if TNG was cancelled at season two, and instead of Shades of Grey, they played All Good Things... ? Surely someone one would say Give me those 5 years back you stole from me, you sons of bitches!? Or what if Voyager finished with Season 2? Imagine the universal applause?
They really need to just let the Sci-Fy channel pick up any new Trek series. The 'General Public' are a bunch of 'Jersey Shore - Teen Mom 2 - Mob Wives' watching idiots. It's that group of people who get ours shows cancelled because they can't understand whats going on and they lose interest in watching the shows. So the viewership drops, ratings and revenue. I'd really be excited if they made a new show with the cast from Star Trek 2009. Zachary Quinto is already used to being on TV. He was in Heroes and American Horror Story.
I happened to rewatch TATV last week and there are things about it I like: seeing the captain and crew nostalgic at the end of their mission, the cute little moment between Archer and T'Pol before his big speech, and T'Pol's humanized disposition towards open sarcasm. I also relished the opportunity to see the beautiful CGI Enterprise-D, but that's about it, I think. The parts I have a problems with outweigh the ones I enjoyed, I'm afraid. For one thing, framing the ENT finale within a TNG episode made it look like the ENT story was less important than the background TNG episode. That sensation was also accentuated by the fact that the ENT story was presented as a holodeck simulation that Riker was apparently running in his spare time, for fun. What that said to me was that the TNG storyline was the actual focus, albeit hidden. Riker had a difficult decision to make and he was using the ENT holoprogram to get his mind off things, so the ENT storyline came off as secondary to his real-life preoccupations. At least, that was my perception. Not very flattering for ENT as a series and to the people who worked on it, if you ask me. The other problems I have are: Trip's death - I felt it was for all the wrong reasons. I said I enjoyed the feeling of nostalgia in the air. Well, it would have been nice if we had actually seen all the adventures they were nostalgic about. The episode ends with Archer's speech, which we never actually see. Why is that? Probably the most important moment in ENT's run and we never see it? Not to mention that the entire episode leads up to that moment, only to leave us hanging at the end. That's cheating and it's disappointing. I think watching Archer give his historic speech would have been of more interest to everyone than the fact that Riker had decided to talk to Picard about his little Pegasus problem. Again, that dismissive attitude bothered the hell out of me.
