Best Trek Intro...

The intro is fantastic, they are no other Trek intros I have ever witnessed. From TOS, Next Gen, DS-9, Voyager, I have never seen these events nor am I ever likely to. However, with Enterprise, these are events we have all witness, not all of them. Most of the intro deals with people, places and event that I have seen. It also includes future events that I will never see, it's the best of both worlds, not to be confused with the Next Gen ep's. I can't speak for you, however, for me I love it...

Sorry you feel like that , I love the intro, to each their own. I gives me a feel that this Trek is not 300 years in the future, It gave us the best of both worlds, our current tentative steps into space all the way to the first warp 5 star ship able to leave the Solar System. By the way, if you have ever watched Carbon Creek they do indeed show sputnik in orbit, I love this intro way more than TOS...and it is on par with Next Gen, DS-9 and Voyager. I also like the intro. The song perfectly fitted the urge of humankind to discover more of the world and especially the late part of the intro which showed two (? ) ships that come between the Space Shuttle and the NX-01 helped to establish (together with the shuttlepods) the "this is a continuation of NASA designs" vibe of the show.
A bunch of pretty space pictures and the ship/station with some classical music has always been nice but far less intertwined with the show and its themes than the ENT intro.

In fact, I firmly believe that if they had commissioned a symphonic theme song, perhaps evening using some sort of sea voyage, jet, space flight montage (instead of that piece of crap they used to try to lure in a younger audience {bad choice of networks, too - but that is another story}) they would have managed to stay on the air for seven years instead of the four they were on.

I suppose that we are going to have to agree to disagree, I don't think the theme song would have given Enterprise a very well deserved 3 extra seasons. I really liked the theme song, that not withstanding a song giving 3 more season, I think not...

Ehm, they did use a montage which showed travel on sea, in air and in space. About using classical music, I'd have to ask why? Because we are used to Trek intros featuring classical music and not pop songs?

Yes, poorly written on my part. Too much wine. Anyway, what I wanted to say (and clearly didn't as I read this back today) was they should have had a symphonic piece (instead of that piece of crap the used) in conjunction with the travel montage. My apologies for the confusion, all. You may now continue to disagree.

Eh its not great but might be the best of a bad bunch visually. I suppose it has better rewatch value than most of the intros. DS9's bored me to tears, Voyager's was pretty but got pretty boring fast.
The music is kind of the bad thing about it, VOY's theme was by far the best for me.

Agreed. I hated the song at first. It almost made me stop watching Enterprise. But when they changed it in later seasons, I slowly started to appreciate the original song. IMO, the horrible up-tempo version really didn't fit the gloomy story arc of the 3rd season.

I love it so much.. the visuals are as the OP says a very nice change, being grounded in our history and our almost could be history rather than sweeping starscapes. The song I grew to love. I particularly enjoy singing it LOUDLY while watching the intro scenes to the other series. It is such an excellent way to annoy people

(Completely agree about the tempo change, they should have been reversed.)

I loved the montage itself, though I think it was a little too Americentric. How can you do a montage involving human space exploration and not include Yuri Gagarin?

Giving the theme a more upbeat sound just as the show shifted towards a darker tone showed a hilarious lack of awareness on the creators' part.

As for the song, yes, it WAS stupid, and more in tune with something like Dawson's Creek than Star Trek, but, the orchestrated version on the end credits of BROKEN BOW was actually pretty good. I'm still disapointed that wasn't on the soundtrack. It's only the lyrics that make it silly.

I like the intro as to me it was always Enterprise specific. As in various vessels through the ages named Enterprise. The theme song was unexpected but ties into the concept of exploring seamlessly.
A symphonic intro is so science fiction and overdone. The reason I enjoyed the Voyager intro was that it usually cut short some stupid holodeck story set in 16oos Europe.

It was a new series, if Roddenberry decided to have lyrics instead of music, most people would have freaked out, to NOT have lyrics in the intro. I respect all your opinions, however I totally disagree with you on the lyrics, I think they add to the intro, remember this was when we were just getting into space, this was the first series that did not already have a Star Fleet ready to go, this was the NX-01, the first warp 5 Star Ship, It was the first, so why not have a different theme song to go along with it. It made sense to have a different type intro to a different Trek, I LOVE THE INTRO...LLAP
