Star Trek Voyager: The Eternal Tide by Kirsten Beyer

Thinking about it more though, I can't see that Janeway's return, if it does happen, can be a permanent thing. Chronologically talking, the relaunch novels take place in 2381 and, unless there's a massive jump, we can assume Eternal Tide takes place in that same year, maybe edging into 2382.

Yet I don't recall any novels set after 2381 mentioning the return of Janeway and she's certainly not a figure in the post-Borg Invasion world.

No, there's something else at work here. Alternate universe/timeline Janeway, clone, etc.

Theres nothing in any of the Typhon Pact era stuff that precludes Janeway being alive and in command of Project Full Circle.

I figure this will be the last book with Afsarah Eden.

I don't know, guys. This is a pretty touchy issue and I've argued as strenuously against Janeway's return as anyone, but this is Kirsten Motherfucking Beyer, and I'm pretty much happy to let her do whatever she goddamn well pleases, at this point.

Shrug.

I'm reasonably hopeful that no matter WHAT happens it'll be good.

Though honestly, the cover means nothing. A chunk of the novel could be about Janeway's INFLUENCE in the quadrant was, good and bad. And it could be any number of Trek characters showing up.

(A DS9 novel implied Sulu is still alive, wouldn't it be a kicker if it was HIM?)

If Janeway is truly back, the book is going to SELL like crazy. Kirsten might as well book her round-the-world cruise now . . .

Having read Before Dishonor earlier this month, I wonder if Lady Q will be involved in Janeway's return, if this novel is focusing on that?

Inside scoop: It's actually Joe Carey.

No, I'm kidding, it's actually Commander Cavit.

No, wait, it's actually Lyndsay Ballard. Again.

Decent enough looking cover but the first thought in my head was that is an awful likeness of Kate. I've seen better jobs on other covers, still looking forward to the book though.

I, too, am looking forward to this book coming out in August.

As for Janeway making a return thing, well, I'm probably in the minority when I say this, but she's gone...let her rest.

I'm so-so on Janeway's return but there was that interresting tease after her death that left open this so we shall see.

After reading the first few Voyager re-launch books I'm hoping this will be just as good & make the return meaningful.

I don't agree with the idea of bringing Janeway back, and I'll be disappointed if that's what happens. But I also think Kirsten Beyer is more than capable of executing the idea wonderfully, even if I disagree with the concept.

I think people are jumping to conclusions to be honest. Just because Janeway appears to be on the front cover, doesn't equal...she's returning. That being said, IF she is indeed returning then I have thought that Lady Q would have something to do with it.

As I've said before, Janeway has loomed large over every one of Kirsten's VGR novels, whether she's been physically present in them or not.

If Lyndsay Ballard returns...will she be with...twins?? (Yes bad Suite Life joke!) I agree with you that Janeway has been an integral part of Kristen's novels, the character's legacy and influence on the ship and Delta Quadrant is apparent as I think shanejayell was attempting to point out. If anything the cover will pique more fan interest.

For that matter there's folks in the Delta Quadrant that might HATE Janeway. I mean, she DID save the Borg at one point. If word got out somehow it could bite Starfleet in the ass....

I don't get the Lyndsay Ballard reference. When did she return? (I haven't read Children of the Storm yet.)

Voyager is going through ex-Borg sectors. You could have any one of Starfleet's assimilated Captains return by taking the same "stay behind" route Seven did in Destiny. You could even have Erika Hernandez if this story brings in the Caeliar, but I doubt that.
