iPad 3

So has anyone picked up the new iPad 3? I'm sitting here playing with mine now. It arrived around 930 this morning. I've been impressed with voice dictation and the new retina display.

I bought one, got it today. Seems like a pretty big upgrade from the original iPad (I skipped the iPad 2, didn't think it was worth the money just for a camera and a faster CPU...), screen is indeed gorgeous.

Shame the 4G doesn't work outside of the US yet, however I bought the wi-fi only model as I can just tether it to my phone for internet access anyway (which we do get for free in the UK, at least on my network/carrier).

What is this iPad3 you speak of? You must mean the "New iPad". Very nice tablet. I plan on getting one. Not crazy about Apples new naming scheme though. What's the next iPad going to be named? The "Newer iPad"? Good grief.

I got one too; haven't charged it yet, but am very eager to get it running. Also got a case.

(For anyone who's keen, Targus makes the best iPad cases. They got a few for the new iPad.)

I decided a while ago that I'd get one for my birthday. And being that my birthday is in June, it's a nice little while for me to scrimp and save (let's face it, iPads are hardly "I need" items) as well as a nice prize at the finish line for my current job (we wrap in June.)

Too, it'll be a good window of time to wait while the rest of you get to use yours and find/report/fix any bugs or problems that might be present. :)

Mine arrives in three weeks. I'm decidedly in the Android camp for phones but Android tablets are a complete joke, and this will be my first Apple product...I feel so dirty. :)

I got one early this morning. I was the entire line at my local Verizon store in rural Minnesota. I expected more people to show up.

How were the lines for everyone else?

I got lucky, I put in my online order just under the wire on March 7. Got my iPad yesterday. Am having very much enjoyable time using it. :)

Not all apps are updated for the Retina display yet (if they are not, they will look exactly like they did on the first two iPads) but most soon will be.

Just a general question:

What your experiences with tablets in general (doesn't have to be the iPad). Is being able to surf the web on your couch worth the price?

I'm so on the fence about them.. on the one hand i'd like to lie comfortably on my couch and do some online stuff but i could live without it since my monitor is far bigger and my laptop can do so much more stuff than mere websurfing.

Is a tablet really more than a cool tech toy (and i so love cool tech toys!)?

I use mine almost non-stop. From surfing to watching videos to reading books to writing, it's a pretty useful mobile platform. :techman:

I JUST bought an iPad 2 two weeks ago. Feeling a bit dumb now. Maybe I can still return it. :shifty:

I plan to proof my photographic compositions on my iPad at some point so the better screen would actually be a big deal to me.

Last fall, one of the conductors of the NY Phil used an iPad to conduct a Mozart Symphony (and play along at the harpsichord). He had the music on the iPad 2 and used a Blue Tooth pedal to turn his pages.

I bought the NEW iPad the day it came out. I've scanned all my scores into forScore, and I conduct solely from my iPad. At church I've downloaded a ton of public domain organ works from IMSLP, and I'll be using it exclusively for preludes, postludes, anthems, and so forth. I can either scan or photograph scores right into the software. I've had a ton of colleagues inquiring about my use of the iPad for music.

Netflix streaming... I can watch whatever they have available anywhere I have Wi-Fi access. The picture is gorgeous.

I'm also playing the Sims Medieval on it.

Oh, and yes, my iPad does experience an increase in temperature. Yesterday after a 47 minute band rehearsal, the lower left corner was warm to the touch. However, by warm to the touch, I mean not completely stone cold like the rest of the casing was. In other news, water is wet.

I think I'm going to hold off for a little while. I never buy anything with a dot-zero at the end of the version number. The new iPad has some known problems with the battery overheating to support the new graphics capabilities. I'm going to see how they fix that one, as it could be a big problem down the line as the battery gets older. It looks promising, though. Maybe someday...

It runs ten degrees hotter which is still cooler than most other tablets not named iPad. :techman:

I've had mine for 10 days and have yet to have a serious concern about anything with it, including temperature (but, by God, is the back casing cold when the iPad is in a cold room).
