New episode tonight, good people. Definitely sparking some interest for obvious reasons. I, as usual, will be working late. Not even sure I'll be able to get to a computer so I'm posting the thread now. Enjoy, and I'll watch it a little later. :techman:

Again, congrats to Jared and Gen on the birth of Thomas Colton Padalecki on Monday, March 19th. :)

Congratulations! I love that they picked a real name and not shit like Pancake Padalecki. Some people come up with the worst names.

I've just started watching Supernatural and I must say it's one of the funniest shows I've seen in a while, reminds me a bit of Stargate SG-1 in that it doesn't all ways takes itself seriously, and when it does, I like the depth of the lore and the interaction of the characters.

Re: Supernatural 7x17"The Born Again Identity"spoiler discussion threa

I'm definitely looking forward to this one. :techman:

Re: Supernatural 7x17"The Born Again Identity"spoiler discussion threa

Is it just me or did Rachel Minor put on a little weight??...Oh AND BTW Meg NEEDS ganked!!!!

Re: Supernatural 7x17"The Born Again Identity"spoiler discussion threa

Oh, Crap, Cas. You really went all the way for redemption. But he'll be back since this episode is a part of his three-episode arc so hopefully his current condition won't be permanent.

I'm glad Sam is better. I really was worried for him this episode to the point in which it was too painful to watch him like that. But I admire his strength and how he was trying to help that girl in spite of his mentally compromised state.

For those of you who may feel the ending of Sam's Lucifer breakdown storyline was a copout, I beg to differ. I believed there was no other way it could have ended. It's not like Sam could have bounced off from that on his own and he couldn't have lived the rest of his life with Mental Lucifer in his head without going completely nuts at some point.

Re: Supernatural 7x17"The Born Again Identity"spoiler discussion threa

As someone who really, really didn't want Sam to be "fully" healed from his past, I actually liked this episode.

After the last two episodes, I was beginning to think the writers were taking Sam to a place where he couldn't actually function, that simply restoring some level of insanity to him was also going to feel like a cop out.

But I am a just a bit confused, exactly what did Castiel do.

He can't repair Sam's soul (made clear in season 6) so its just as messed up as ever.

So the only thing I can think that he did was literally remove every hell memory from his mind, and placed them within himself.

I will be curious to see if this is accurate.

Nice to see Bobby's ghost still around. And very interesting that Bobby was aware of Cas being out and and about. I assume he didn't tell Sam or Dean due to Sam being functional, and for what it might due to Dean. But very interesting.

As for Castiel, I was kind of hoping he wouldn't get his memories back. That he would have some minor (read healing) abilities (or knowledge of those but no knowledge to make use of his other).

But I like this on the immediate surface better. Here really for the first time Castiel gets solid punishment from all his actions. From setting Sam lose to start the apocalypse, to his dealings with Crowley, to his actions as a Souped up angel.

Also nice to see that Mark still has a possible reoccurring role on the show (his Lucifer is simply awesome).

Nice to see Meg again, nice to see that Crowley is still ultimately looking after himself.

Long term issues, we have an Angel out on Earth, who has going to have deep emotional issues, and we have Meg (a follower of Lucifer) going to be his nurse.

Now that would be a treat, Castiel pushed into a Lucifer role.

Re: Supernatural 7x17"The Born Again Identity"spoiler discussion threa

Oh my God. That episode made me sad. Even though Cas sort of had it coming. :( Nurse Masters. shudder. Ever the malevolent one, our Meg. Fascinating that Dean knew it was Cas all along. He never doubted. I loved that Meg called it "double dipping" with Dean having Cas again and still having Sam. You were bestest friends. ROFL! Cas and Dean did have that chemistry that took everyone by surprise--and he did let Sam out to go with Ruby in the first place. I'd forgotten that. Wow.

Re: Supernatural 7x17"The Born Again Identity"spoiler discussion threa

I, too, was glad that Sam was cured. They really had to end it sooner or later, but I was sad to Castiel suffer (again) but it did allow him some redemption. I hope he won't be out of the picture for long; I missed the chemistry that he and Dean had together.

Rachel Minor definitely looked different; I couldn't tell if it was a simple weight gain or if she was ill. Her face looked oddly puffy but the rest of her didn't seem to have changed much. But that could costuming and lighting. I hope she's not ill.

I really wish they'd give a little more attention to "ghost Bobby." I think it would give the brothers a little comfort to know he was still around.

Re: Supernatural 7x17"The Born Again Identity"spoiler discussion threa

Too bad about Cass, he could've whupped those lame Leviathans! Speaking of those Leviathans have the brothers tried getting another angel or supernatural force to help them? I can't remember if they mentioned this earlier in the season.

Re: Supernatural 7x17"The Born Again Identity"spoiler discussion threa

I thought the brothers were persona non grata as far as the angels were concerned since there was an angel civil war. Wasn't Cas really the only angel who liked humans? Anna did, but she was turned through torture by other angels. There really aren't any sympathetic angels to ask, are there?

Yeah, ghost Bobby knocked the book off the table to the spot where Dean found the number to call the hunter who guided him to "Emmanuel." :) Even in the afterlife, Bobby knows things. :techman: Dean and Cas really did have rocking chemistry.

I noticed that Rachel Miner's face looked a little puffy, too. Samantha Smith's face looked like that in the season four hallucinations with Sam in the panic room, but she'd just had a baby. Rachel Miner hasn't been pregnant. I know someone who had to take medicine for a kidney infection whose face got all puffy like that even though she didn't gain any real weight. A side effect. A possibility.

Re: Supernatural 7x17"The Born Again Identity"spoiler discussion threa

I really enjoyed this episode. My only real complaint is that once Cas removed Lucifer from Sam (or whatever he did exactly), Sam should have collapsed and slept for a day or two. But that can easily be explained away by Cas also healing Sam's body I suppose.

What impressed me a lot is in the midst of this pretty major story, we also got a mini-MOTW tale with Sam and the girl in the hospital and somehow it didn't feel tacked on, showed Sam's character even when he was under siege and was pretty satisfying in its own right.

I don't know about that. The Leviathans seem to pre-date even the angels. It's possible they're stronger than the angels, too.

I read some where yesterday that she was taking medication due to a back injury and it made her face puff up.

Re: Supernatural 7x17"The Born Again Identity"spoiler discussion threa

Realistically, I think Cas's "punishment" for his crimes was also done in order to prevent the return of Cas from being an easy win button. The brothers with a fully powered angel on their side? It's true that Cas couldn't handle all the leviathans at once but... that was every single one at once!

Re: Supernatural 7x17"The Born Again Identity"spoiler discussion threa

Well the thing is having a fully powered angel at the boys beck and call really, really, really defeats the hard life of the brothers.

I mean look at this way, most fans like the fact that Sam no longer has his demonic powers (even if they never explained how they disappeared, since ie his soul as been in another body before, and he has died before all without impacting his body's link with Azazel).

And Sam could only, ever harm demons. Castiel can have some level of influence over everything.

Its why Castiel really has no business as a full powered angel being with the guys.

As for Castiel getting some real punishment for his actions, besides being apart from heaven is about damn damn.

Dean does a selfless (and selfish) deal to Save Sam. What happens he spends 30 years in hell and starts the events that lead to Lucifer being released. He has no knowledge that at this could happen. All he expects at the time is being tortured for all eternity (doesn't even know he would in time turn into a demon).

Sam using his demonic powers, to try and stop Lilith (when he and Dean are told by Angels and Demons that Lilith must be stopped). His at worst is that he will turn evil or die in the attempt (and probably damn his soul as well). Well he actually frees Lucifer (thinks in large part to Castiel, Ruby and other angels who lie, lie and lie to him. He ends up spending over about 150 years in Hell.

What was Castiel's punishment? Having to stick around earth for a year. And slowly lose his angelic qualities.

Hardly seems even close to fair. So this, this is at least a nice start.

I would also assume that Castiel's mind and life experience would be able to better deal with what happened to Sam.

Sam 30 years on Earth, 150 yeas in Hell.

Castiel thousands of years of life, 150 years of Sam's hell experience (if that is what happened to him).
