Series 7 FINALLY Starts Shooting

Y'know, I'm willing to cut the man some slack, mainly because I've yet to see a case where someones been able to successfully run two unrelated tv shows at once.
He'll also need time to actually write scripts, and at the same time hes got a family at home. I'm perfectly happy with him NOT rushing to get the episodes done or burning himself out to meet some deadline.

And going back to the actors, keep in mind that they're also likely to be needed for promotional tours. Especially Freeman.

Actors also have to be available for looping sessions and such post-work after principal photography is finished.

Some people are reading "Sherlock will film in 2013" as meaning "so DW series 8 will be in 2014, oh noes teh sky is falling, we are owed more Who you Tory BBC bastards!" or words to that effect.

I'd read it as "so either Gatiss will run Sherlock season 3 solo, or Moffat will hand over Dr Who, or they'll be daft enough to try both at the same time, and DW series 8 will start in autumn 2013, how could you think otherwise?"

I have not been here in a while and so know nothing of what is going on, but I just would like to ask do we know when Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill will film their final episode?

I completely agree with this. I find it utterly obnoxious when people in this forum and Sherlock threads in the General TV & Media forum complain about this. Additionally I don't think the quality of either show has dropped because Moffat is managing both shows back-to-back.

From the Official Convention: Episode 5 (the Ponds' last episode) to be shot in New York.

Add to that the confirmation that the Angels will be in the episode and the never explained photo of Amy with baby Melody from 'Day Of The Moon' are we going to see timey-wimey shenanigans that will allow the Ponds to raise their daughter after all?

Also, the reason why the TARDIS set was never moved from Upper Boat is because they've built a new one at the new studio. (Don't know if this means a new design or just a new version of the existing one.)

Which means that filming likely will take place in the next few weeks unless there's going to be an interval while Karen films her next movie (which is possible as the production schedule runs to the end of the year).

Someone correct me, but I think this is the first time Doctor Who has filmed in two different non-UK countries in one season - first Spain, now the US. Season 5 had two foreign-shot episodes but they were both done in Croatia.

I'd assume BBC America are paying for the US shoot like they did last time, because it works out as a publicity bonus for them.

Despite the BBC's money woes, it must have been more cost-effective to build it from scratch, either a new design or a recreation of the most recent design, rather than tear down the set, move it, and rebuild it. That's the only way that makes sense. :)

If they're building from scratch, they might as well make it a new design. We got a new console in The Five Doctors, might as well have a new console room for the 50th anniversary.

I like the season five/six console room because it looks great. From a practical standpoint, though, it's a pain in the ass to film in, so if they scrapped it for something simpler I shouldn't be surprised except at the expense the BBC is incurring by scrapping the set and building something new.

Personally, I'd love to see Mike Tucker's proposed McCoy console room, with the console that's suspended from the ceiling. It looks old-school (perfect for the 50th) but it's also futuristic. :)

The official Doctor Who Twitter feed tweeted this morning that when asked at the DW convention "Will there be a new TARDIS when the series returns", Moffat's answer was "We built a new wall!" Their next tweet was "So the rumours of a new TARDIS set are debunked!"

Pity. I guess I'm the only one whos hated all the NuWho console rooms.

Just never been a fan of the 'built from random bits we found in a scrap pile' look.

Or maybe because its just a constant reminder that I need to declutter my room. ;)

I like the split level notion of the current console room, but the junk heap console probably seemed a better idea on paper.

I liked the 9/10 console room myself. It did at least look a bit alien.

Alien may be fine, but I can do without all the ramshackle pieces and the pounding and banging on everything. The whimsey of the new room is preferable, and at least reminiscent of the old series wood panel looking control room.

Yeah this is true. I'm still fond of the old white room as well, doubt we'll ever see that again however.

It's archived somewhere.

I would love to see the TARDIS have a case of space measles or something, then start randomly changing the console room back & forth in it's hysteria.

The white room, then coral, then the Victorian wood one.
