Todays press conference roundup

So, Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new one.

Never heard of her, so I'm neither elated nor appalled. She looks like pretty much every girl who works at our local supermarket, really, and so that's all that springs to mind...

Apparently the Ponds will have a final face-off against the Weeping Angels in episode 5.

There will also be only 6 episodes of season 7 in 2012 (1-5 in the autumn, and the Xmas special) with the remaining 8 in New Year/spring. Cue the usual "the sky is falling, the BBC owe us more Who cos we're so devoted to the bastards" rants on the net - but the Press Conference was specifically clear about nothing of the anniversary stuff or season 8 being discussed today, so they're not meaning only 8 episodes in 2013, just the last 8 of season 7.

We also found out that the Daleks are going to appear in the first five (DWM tweet here), so perhaps the rumors of Spain standing in for Skaro are accurate.

Weeping angels and Daleks = good. New Companion sounds like will be not from our time = good.

Yay for the Daleks- I love them metal bastards!

I'd suspect they'll be in either episode 1 or 4, then... (2's the one with Mark Williams, 3 the Western, and 5 the Weeping Angels)

Oh, and the new girl joins in the Xmas Special

I posted in the other thread...but yeah don't know the actress, but am still excited and she's very pretty indeed. I want series seven to start now!

I'd bet on episode 1 for two reasons.

First, the BBC has been jonesing for a Dalek season opener for years, only no showrunner has indulged them.

Second, Doctor Who will have been off the air for ten or eleven months, and the Daleks are always good to make a splash.

That would make a crowded episode, though -- in addition to a Dalek plot, Moffat also has to reintroduce the Ponds to the TARDIS.

Still, I think it makes a lot of sense for the Daleks to kick off the season.

Re: Todays press conference roundupSo, Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new

That would be my assumption as well. But then, I've also longed for a Dalek premiere for a while, and felt that if a showrunner doesn't want to use them but has to, that's the best way to get them out of the way...

Never heard of her but she's definitely cute. Apparently she was Captain America as "Connie." Anyone remember this character?

New Companion sounds like will be not from our time = good.
I certainly hope you're right!

Re: Todays press conference roundupSo, Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new

So what are the odds that the Dalek story features the Dalek Civil War Moffat came up with for the Doctor Who Experience and the triumph of the non stupid looking RTD versions?

Re: Todays press conference roundupSo, Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new

No complaints over the choice. A complete unknown to most people except Emmerdale Farm fans.

Why people are panicking over the idea of 6 episodes this year 8 next year doesn't make sense. For all we know that means the new season starts in November, takes a few weeks off after Christmas and then resumes in January or February. Like every other show out there these days. Or they might do a 4-month break like they did last season. So what?

Wasn't "Connie" one of the two girls Steve and Bucky double dated during their last night before enrolling?

Re: Todays press conference roundupSo, Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new

Ah, you might be right. A pretty forgettable role, unfortunately. But it'll be weird to watch in a year or so, just like watching Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire now. ;)

Re: Todays press conference roundupSo, Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new

^ Indeed so...although admittedly Barty Crouch Jr. was a tinsy winsy bit more high profile than the part Jenna played. I barely remember her...but I definitely recalled David :)

I think it's more the idea that in two years and two months there'll only have been the Xmas 2011 Special, Series 7 (plus Xmas 2012) and the Anniversary Special(s) that people are bothered by.

And before you ask, there wouldn't be enough time to get another series inbetween Series 7 and the Anniversary unless they started shooting straight after Christmas, with only a week or two off following a ten month shoot.

Re: Todays press conference roundupSo, Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new

I'm with LM. I have no idea who this new girl is, so like most other actors on the show, I'll just sit back and see what she can do.

As for the series gap? Yeah, I'm dissapointed. but after readign all the horror stories about the state of the economy in the UK, we should probably be lucky we're getting ANY new stories this year.

As for the Daleks, I'm game, as long as the writer is decent. (Moffet I hope)

Any point in posting the exact same post, including the exact same slagging off of Karen, into two seperate threads?

Just to annoy you?

Or maybe because some people might read one thread but not the the other?

Nah, it's just to annoy you.

(And would you seriously claim that Karen Gillian isn't always in a highly excitable state in interviews?)
