Who got into fights in school?

Never been in a fight with anyone, with the exception of a few wrestling matches with my brother who was 2 years younger than me. And those never came to punches.

I was picked on and teased as a kid but was the stereotypical wimp. I would surely have lost any fight if I had been in one.

Several, in school and the Army. Won most, lost a few, but lost well. And lots of sparring in hth training (but that's different).

In my life I have taken one swing at another human being. And he ducked.

I was 13 or 14 and lost it with one of my cousins who knew exactly what buttons to push.

I do not fear the word "coward". I do not suffer from McFly Syndrome. I see no honor in harming others (or suffering harm) over trivial matters.

There have been three times in my life when courage and bravery have been called for. And each time I have surprised myself by acting, without regard to potential danger to myself, to prevent harm from falling on another. None of these were "fighting" situations.

I have proven to myself that I will act, without thinking, when required to help others. Taking action in the face of danger is courage. Fist-fighting to settle a disagreement is sheer stupidity.

I've always tried to live by the following credo... even when I've had moments of weakness and failed. It's served me in good stead ever since I heard Malcolm McDowell say it in a movie when I was a kid.

"The first person to raise a fist is the first person to run out of ideas."

Not bad for one of the Droogs.

Very true. That's why my fights, all of them where the intent was to actively do damage, were in self defense.

Never. I want to get into a fight, to learn what it is like to be in one.

I can teach you right now: What might seem cool, often isn't.

A fight is NOT something to experience just because "it's the thing to do", it's something to experience only if it can't be avoided.

Boy, did you ever get that right. If I could go back in time and prevent the needless bullshit fights I did get involved in I'd happily do so. Violence with a directed, constructive purpose(defending one's family from attack...self-defense against a thug or criminal...fighting a war against an immoral, malevolent enemy regime) is perfectly acceptable. But 99% of fistfights and brawls don't have a directed, constructive purpose.

Most kids get into a few minor scrapes at school when they're young, I think. I did a couple of times.

The second one, I remember some kid being an obnoxious so-and-so. Can't even remember his name or what he was doing now. Funny, that. Anyway, I slammed the sharp/thin edge of a lever-arch file I was carrying at the time up against his throat, pinning him against the wall, and told him quietly to shut up. Even at that young age, it was already exceedingly out of character for me to act like that, so I think sheer surprise caused him to be terrified and he stopped being annoying after that. While it worked, it wasn't something I was proud of even that day - it felt cheap - and that was the last time I ever threatened (or, more meaningfully, felt like I had to threaten) someone physically to get them to act a certain way.

No, I never got in any fights, really.

Once time I did knock another kid over, but I didn't mean to, I was just giving him a very light playful shove and I guess he wasn't expecting it. At least a few people thought that I had "beat him up" after that.

I'm not really the fighting type. But I don't back down if someone else starts something either. I haven't started a fight in my life, in or out of school. But I've participated in a few here and there. I actually got arrested for abh once but fortunately I had more witnesses than the other bloke, so I negotiated it down to self defence and they let me go... Also, the fact that the other bloke had drugs on him probably helped my case.

Sucker punches and shoves into the wall were more common than actual fights for me. The bullies at Columbine tended to be a cowardly lot.

Wise indeed is he who can learn from the experience of others.

Fortunately, I am not burdened with wisdom

Then by all means, get the shit kicked out of yourself.

THAT should "burden you with wisdom".:bolian:

Well I got what I was wishing for! Funny how the universe behaves like that

I was on a del this evening and got into an argument with a drunk guy. He wasn't backing down, I wasn't backing down (I had work to do, get out of the way idiot!) and we got into a little push and shove. He was an abusive foul mouthed fellow but he seemed to back off after I pushed him a couple of times. Still swearing at me of course

It wasn't a fight 'proper' but I didn't back off! For the first time ever, I dominated another man. And it was awesome! You see, in the past my body would have done the 'flight' thing not the 'fight' thing. This time, while I was aware of the fear, or the adrenaline, whatever it is, it didn't paralyse me. I was still me and able to act as I saw fit.

Fantastic!!

THe evolution continues my friends!!!

Perhaps I will learn to swim next!!

In any event let this be a lesson to everyone out there

When I'm delivering pizzas, get out of my way.
